Why did they include...?

Bought some Ford Racing finned aluminum valve covers from Summit. Just wondering why they bother including a breather cap if it's not the right one?

Anyone else notice this? I thought I saw a thread about this a while ago, but couldn't find it. I know Summit didn't give me the wrong part.

Edit:

To clarify. The valve covers have a breather tube. But the cap is a push-in. With a grommet it works, but looks like crap. Wouldn't a push-on cap without a grommet have been better?

the grommet holds the cap in place. otherwise you would need a tube built into the valve cover which would look worse.

That's what it has. It has a breather tube, and the grommet and push-in sit on top of that.

The cap on the top valve cover in this pic is similar to what it ends up looking like.

So anyone know of a Push-ON cap that will fit the tube? I tried the stock cap from a 200ci. and the opening is too small.

That's right. Push-in for grommets, push-on for tubes. Aftermarket companies such as Moroso, Mr. Gasket, and Trans-Dapt should sell a push-ON style or even a K&N clamp on style should work. Maybe it's me, but that tube looks too long.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find.

That pic isn't my set, but just an example. Without measuring I'd guess the tube is only about .5" longer than stock. NPD has a seperate tube that looks identical if you want to add one to aftermarket covers. The description says it's for emmission equiped 289's.

I've got a Mr. Gasket breather that would fit that tube because I had the same problem you've got. Only problem is I don't have the part number. It looks like this:

It has those metal tabs that get squeezed together when pushed into the tube. I'll try and see if I can come up with that part number, but I doubt it.

Are the tabs on the outside? Or are they inside the cap like the factory push-on caps?

that is similar to the one I have, the only difference is mine has a tube coming off the side of it to attach a hose for the PCV system.

I also have the cap with the hose attachment. I thought it was to connect to the air cleaner, not the PCV. How do you have yours hooked up? I haven't gotten that far on mine yet. It seems like it will accept a 3/8" ID hose but the fitting on my air cleaner is 5/8". Trying to figure out what would work and look best.

Yes, you are correct, to the air cleaner, there is no PCV valve there, dunno why I said that. I had the same problem with the air cleaner needing a bigger hose than the breather. What I did was use the smaller hose that fits on the breather, and then busted out my pocketknife to hog out the end that goes to the air cleaner. Crude, yes, but it did work Does that make sense?

Not to highjack the thread, but I'm using a pair of Wysco breather baffles, pn WA6090, $23 apiece at Jegs http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_420028_-1
