So I just picked it up from having a brand new T-5z installed, everything is great and awesome for 2 f'n days! Today it starts sputtering like it's missing while I'm driving down the road....Not good. But it picks right back up and keeps on trucking. After a few times of that happening I noticed that the more throttle I gave it, the less it would miss. I just put a brand new 155lph edelbrock fuel pump in...so that can't be it. I'm thinking its the plugs not firing because I can smell excess gas in the exhaust.

Tonight, on the way to the GF's place, I push in the clutch to stop at a light and ...... it just dies. Immediately. I try to crank it back over....it cranks GREAT....but there's no fire. I can smell the gas...so I'm sure it's not a fuel problem. It has to be electrical. Especially since it just died all of a sudden.

AAA to the rescue.....again. I tow it home and I'm just so ****ing irritated that I can't bring myself to mess w/ it tonight. I've already printed out the "Cranks but no start" checklist and I'm gonna hit it first thing in the morning.

I think the car is getting back at me for neglecting it over the years. The gods are NOT pleased. Why can't I just have ONE SINGLE WEEK of hassle free driving. Why. amnit:

your rear main seal must be not leaking. 5.0's hate it when they cant leak from the rear main.

no in all seriousness it sounds like you can find whats going on by going through the checklist, if its spark then thats traceable, either with a voltmeter or whatever. goodluck.

lol......
my vote for ignition module..... sounds just like my old problem. there is too much poor and messed up right back to normal performance for it to be anything else but electrical.... So yeah ignition module(mine was just loose and was a 0$ fix, so check that 1st)...... otherwise good luck

I hope you figure it out man. Hopefully it's only the TFI. Those have been know to strand a few people in their day, and they are cheap and easy to replace.

Speaking of easy to replace....how the hell do you get this thing off? the holes in the module are too small to get a socket in there and I don't see any phillips or torx indentions in the heads...wtf!?

NAPA sells the proper socket that fits. It's a necked down 5.5 mm socket

Yeah, the guy failed to mention that to me at autozone when I bought the module. Had to go back and get the wrench. That did the trick though. Back up and running. The question is...for how long. ::doctor evil face::

AUTOZONE!!!!??????...amnit:crapola

HEHE... You know about my Autozone thread rants, right?? They told me that 2001 Mustangs do NOT have a 4.6L, it's a 4.3L...even my manager said so.

Anyways, I'm glad you found out the problem, and I'm glad that it wasn't something that you had to spend all day on. Good job bro!!!!

I havent driven mine in 5 weeks. I managed to pilot my pile over a meteor, which bent the rim. I fixed that, and then a few weeks later the spring snapped in half. the brakes went out the very same day.

Best advise i can give is....have a beer lol

The Mustang Gods are angry with me too. Currently sitting in my garage, undrivable are:

'80 Capri- leaking coolant. Needs new radiator.
'89 Notch- leaking PS fluid. Hopefully it's only the lines.
