Why do these lights come on!?!?!

Alright. Awhile back my ebrake light came on and has stayed on ever since. It occasionally turns off during breaking but other than that im staring at it 24/7 The ebrake is all the way down and there is absolutly no way that this thing is engaged! WHY!!!! Also, my low coolant light comes on sparadically and then goes off. I topped off the radiator with fluid and i know that that sucker is full. Once again, WHY!!!!!!. Im getting my transmission flushed and my radiator also. will this solve the coolant problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im getting ready to get out the electrical tape and cover that p.o.s light up!!!

There is a low fluid switch on the master cylinder that can also turn on this light. Perhaps your fluid is low or the switch is bad. A good way to test if the switch is bad is to unplug it. That should turn off the light if that switch is the one turning it on. Since you said that it will occasionally turn off during brakeing, that seems like a probable cause.

FYI - The switches 'switch' the ground to the lamp to light it up.

Thanks for the info. however when i reffered to the braking part, i ment that the ebrake light turns off when i break, and the comes right back on. like a big middle finger saying **** you!!!!!!!! and i cant do a damn thing about it

The ebrake light is also used with the low fluid switch. Try unplugging it and see what happens.

I think it's because our cars are getting old and fragile, kinda like old people. No one really has an answer for the things they do.

Might take your overflow tank sensor out and clean it. Mine was coated with all sorts of B.S. It might not have done anything, but at least I know it's clean. Just unscrew the whole cap assembly and pull the thing out.

Here's a pic for ya.

There is a magnet attached to the float in the fluid reservoir that triggers this switch (it's a reed switch). When the fluid is low, the float goes down, and the magnet is closer to the switch. When it gets close enough, it triggers the switch. If this switch is 'on', it could be bad, the fluid could be low, the float could be stuck down, or the magnet (normally attached to the float) could have come off the float, and is lying at the bottom of the reservoir.

Another cause is ignition wires near the switch. Ignition wires can't be within a 2" radius of the switch assy. I would GUESS that this MIGHT be a problem if you have a MSD mounted on the firewall near the brake booster. That seems to be the most common place to mount the MSD.
