Why do u guys think the 96-98 4.6's are a joke??

People say that the cams and intake make a pretty decent difference aftermarket on our cars, and with the heads that the diffference is minimal.

True/false?
true but still a decent difference.

PI headswapped cars make a few more hp but the 96-98 weighs more so the speed difference in minimal at most

i ran 14.1 at 97 in my 98gt with just pulleys, h pipe and timing adjuster. Usually though, the problem with people and non-pi cars is they dont know how to drive them, because they are friggin morons and shift at 6 grand.

My 03 ran almost 1 second faster with just a few more mods than my old car.

that is why people think the 96-98 are a joke.
where do you shift? ive been shifting at about 5700 and i cant get it out of 14.6. I dont have the timeslip at hand, but i did something like a 1.8 or 1.9 60ft. Over the winter im getting an o/r x-pipe and gears so if i can bring my times down to around 14.3 or so just by driving better, i can break into the 13s with gears and pipe. that would be great!

and as for NPI being dogs....mid to low 14s is good enough to spank most cars you come across. VERY FEW ricers break 14s. but thats just it, it runs with ricers. 94-95 5.0s are a great close race, newer mustangs kill it, lt1s kill it, and ls1s...hahahaha dont even think about it

i shifted at 5200-5300 out of first, second and third w/ stock gears
powershifting.

When i had that car i beat LOTS of 99+ stangs(ask jackie chan about this :p ), lt1s, and a couple ls1s in the 1/8

but i got mine for the body style.
I'm with you 100% on that statement. That was the main reason I got my 98 over a 99+ model. After the swap and with my current mods, I think I'll see some decent numbers. A more aggressive cam and a T.A. are in my near future. T.A. maybe for Christams.

get a chip where you can control the timing insted of an adjuster :nice:

he shifted in the low 5k range if I remember...i shift my 01 at 5500 so you are way too high

Jackie's right. I was shifting at red line all the way and my best run was 13.91. Now I hit 3rd and 4th at 5500 and my best time has dropped to 13.58.

Although I've personally never thought 96-98s were a joke, I can see where someone who didn't have the optional 3.27 gears or an automatic would get that impression - because of how they feel with those items. All stangs 99+ come with 35hp more and 3.27 gears stock, so they would "feel" much faster than a stock (stock geared) 96-98 stang. As for money to catch up to a stock 99+, using my formula to get there, (I still have the 3.27 gears) was just under 1000.

140 for PI intake
450 for Catted X
140 for pulleys
250 for PI cams (purchased new and can be had much cheaper today)

I shift right at 5g's. I did a comparison between my car and my buddies 03gt, back when I only had a o/r H and flows. the 03 didn't pull much harder then then my car until about 4800rpm. thats when my car began running out, and the pi stang continued pulling. so if I shifted at 5g's it put me right back into the power band, and if I shifted fast enough, the pi stang wouldn't jump ahead much on me at all. I can honestly say my car was very slow when i got it. I took it to the track right after I got it, and ran a consistent 15.4. I took the car home, changed the oil, sparkplugs, wires, and fuel filter, brought the car back a few weeks later and ran a consistent 14.9. added an o/r H-pipe and the car went to a 14.7. My guess is now with my 4.10's, T/A, and a set of 275 f1's on the rear, I shouldn't have any problems keeping up with a pi stang. unless their some crazy gifted driver like jackie chan :D

I'll let you know how mine feels this week. I finally get it back!
I haven't driven it in 4 mo.

I for one am glad I did the PI headswap. I got the whole PI package at one time. It was fairly expensive but the car is very different now. It really pulls surprisingly hard now.

I have a 97 4.6 with a TDC turbo kit.It put at the wheels 443rwhp and 496rwtq with nothing done to the motor.Im worried if I do anything to the motor like PI swap or even a TB I might risk blowing up the 4.6.Considering the car put out around 180-190 to the wheels. That is a big HP difference.Im told I am pretty much at the max now without blowing the motor.
