Why does my car ping?????

my cars timing is at 10, fuel pressure at 40, running 8-9 pounds of boost...

My car pinged real bad up top..... i then upped the fuel to 45... it made it a little better, but not totally.... i then took the 6:1 FMU disk out and pit a 10:1 in there.... it helped dramatically, but it still pings high in 3rd gear... WHY?!?!

nope.. i thought about it.. the guy at downs ford told me not to get it ebcause its not worth it for how much boost im putting out.. i really doubt this.. but do i need one???

EDIT: FYI, my car started out at 12 timing and 40 fuel pressure right from the dyno.. id rove home and when it got to operational temp, it pinged REAL bad.... i retarded it to 8.5 and it didnt ping at all but it ran pretty crappy not under boost.. everytime i would shift hard out of boost, i would get fireballs from my mufflers under the car.... i then advanced the timing to 10 and it pinged also, which is where i started tweaking witht he fuel which helped, but not totally..... soo do i need a retard?

And are 24's ok for the power i am making??? if i were to switch to 30's i would need amss air correct?? someone told me my injectors are fine and my FMU is making them act bigger then what they really are

ill add two cents (and not one cent more). to add to what was said above, compression (boost) leads to heat, which also causes detonation/preignition (two different things).

more than one guy has had a Boost retard mechanism fail at the track. i would rather run locked out timing - have you considered that?

good luck.

Probably because your running those little 24lb injectors with 9 psi. I dont see an upgraded fuel pump either. Im surprised the car aint blown up yet. 9 psi with a 10:1 FMU is well over 100psi fuel pressure thats needed to make them act the proper size. No fuel pump can do that. You need 36lb injectors so you can run no FMU, and in the 40-50psi range.

sorry i forgot to mention.. i am running a 255 fuel pump soo tthere SHOULDNT be a reason im running out of fuel..

mike the plugs are autolite 24's gapped at .035
About converting to amss air.. i dont see that haveing anything to do with the problem
