why is car popping out of gear!?!

Synchros are made up of a few parts.

There is the actual gear which contains dog teeth which actually mesh the synchro slider to the gear and is what drives the car. The slider ring/blocker ring is the "brake" which is sandwiched between the synchro slider and the gear. This is a wearable item and is replaced ina rebuild. What happens is when you begin the shift into gear, the synchro slider presses into the blocker ring, engages it and then presses it agains tthe gear to slow it down or speed it up.

When blocker rings become worn, you get grinding. The wear from the friction material wearing down or the teeth becoming marred.

Once the gear is engaged, the blocker rings are out of the picture. The physical engagement is now between the synchro slider and dog teeth on the gear itself. They are beveled in a way that when there is a load on the gear, they will not release unless the load is taken off.

When the teeth become damaged however, they tend to cause grinding of gears and/or popping out of gear.

There are other causes of popping, another of which is improper gear/slider engagement causes by belt shift forks or rails or someone just not assembling the mainshaft correctly and the gear being slightly off.

Here's a few pics for visuals. This is a t-5, not a t-45. The black ring in front is the synchro blocker ring. Direct behind it is 3rd gear, and you can see the dog teeth right behind the blocker that engages with the synchro slider (not shown)

The 2nd pic is a damaged 2nd gear out of a trans i rebuilt. You can see the angled shape of the dog teeth designed to help keep the gears engaged under load. This trans grinded into 2nd, and you can see why by looking at the top of the teeth on the left side. A little more damage, and it would begin to pop out of gear.
