I was wondering why you can't talk about street racing on these forums because it's illegal, but you can talk about pulling off your cats for an offroad pipe which is also illegal. I know people can get hurt or killed street racing, but they also can at the track. The reason I would assume is because it's illegal. Taking pollution equipment off of your car is illegal as well, it seems like a double standard. The responsable thing to do of course would be not to street race, but wouldn't it also be the responsable thing to do by not removing your cats? I'm not a tree hugger or anything, I just wondered why some illegal things are a no no on the forum, but other illegal things are ok, just confused, thats all.

My guess is not because its illegal but because it is extremely dangerous. Not just to you but to innocent bystanders driving there kids home from soccer practice etc. and so it is frowned upon by people on this forum as well as the general public. Removing emissions equipment, while illegal, is harmless. Heck in my state there is no emissions or safety inspections so basically no chance of getting caught without cats.

Maybe somewhere other then the US of A, but every state in the union requires vehicles equipt with catalytic converters to have one in place. Now they don't have inspections in every state, but it IS illegal in EVERY state in the US to not have cats.

I have also wondered about this. I actually almost posted this exact same question last night. I think it's also a double standard. No cats will eventually kill our earth... much more important then just a couple people. Having no cats is just as "irresponcible" as street racing, except no cats will eventually kill every single living thing on earth. Name me one street race thats killed that many people???

I'm not against offroad pipes, because both my Mustangs don't have cats.... I just believe it's a double standard.

For the same reason that the penalty for stealing a pack of gum and the penalty for killing someone are different.

People get killed at the track as well, A few years ago a car broke an axle and the rear slick flew off into the stands and killed a couple of people. It wasn't long after that when a car flipped end over end killing the driver. Racing at the track doesn't mean your completly safe, or inocent people for that matter Yeah, with uncle Al getting the nobel peace price and all you would think they would be a stickler about the cats. Global warming is one of the hot topics of our time. I personally don't think it's from my race car, but I've been wrong before. As far as street racing, it isn't very smart, but I'm no sait, I've done my share back in the day. I'm a little older and wiser now, but it wouldn't take much for a civic with a fart can to get to me hee hee.

global warming anyone? hehe its all alarmist propaganda. i hear something new everyday the polar ice cap is melting but its growing on the other side of the world. i read an article the other day about how the method of measuring the average global temperature is faulty as well. i have heard that cow farts and volcanoes are causing global warming. i dont know and dont care. i know that to say no cats is going to kill the masses is a huge stretch. As for "innocent" people getting killed at a track too; the difference there is that spectators at a race willingly put themselves at risk in that way. Soccer moms and elderly people take a risk behind the wheel too but they shouldnt have to worry about some jack@ss in a mustang and a neon running them over at 120 plus. That said, I am guilty of it myself.

he said cow farts . but seriously, street racing is dangerous, unpredictible and uncontrollable, bottom line. take it to the track if you wanna go more than a few mph over the speed limit. i personally believe U.S. Americans and the Iraq such as.... (sorry i couldnt help it). double standard as it may be, this site may be shut down if street racing is discussed willy nilly. oh, as for global warming, i will let my son deal with it. JK

Global warming is real and if we don't take it seriously, we will have more to worry about than anything discussed so far in this forum.

They also say the entire solar system and other planets are warming as well. If thats true, I doubt it's from us. But who knows? I really don't think our technology is capable of telling us why and who is at fault 100 percent.

It is also illegal to have very dark tint on your windows, but when someone shows a pic of their new 5% tint job everyone loves it. Same guy (maybe it was me , maybe it wasnt) destroys a srt8 charger with exhaust & some other mods and everyone gets mad.

I did notice there are places for kill stories on other forums and no one seems to mind.

Exactly. While accidents can happen at the track, you're in a controlled environment. Cars don't come out of nowhere. There are no innocent bystanders. You take the chance of getting injured by going to the track. In fact, you sign a waiver of liability when you come in. You are also racing on a prepped and inspected surface...

What if you talk about street racing, a local cop comes on here, and busts you. You could try to sue StangNet over it. Would you win? No. But StangNet would still have legal fees to deal with, and bad publicity. If we don't allow talk of street racing, we not only take that type of situation out of the equation, we also maybe save a life or two by standing firm against being anti-street racing.

But bottom line is, talk of street racing is not allowed on StangNet. It is against the terms of service that you agreed to when you became a member here. Other boards may allow it, but this one does not. It's for your safety and ours.

Stangnet has a few rules in place that I don't agree with, but I'm not going to argue it. Their rules are their rules. If I want to help a few people out here with some of the things they have questions on or look at some nice cars I'll pop in. My main technical resources, and online enjoyment is not done on the stangnet forum. I would highly suggest if you want to talk street racing or look at chicks layin on cars with their tatas out, you do like I do and head to another forum that carries that content. The moderators are only respecting the wishes of the people who run the show. It likely also has a lot to do with the site sponsors/supporters.

I agree that both practices are illegal then I stop.

One thing is spinning out of control on the Laguna Seca corkscrew hitting some other maniac who like you signed a ton of waivers and consciously decided to spend his week-end living with that probability. Another thing is spinning out of control in the middle of a busy intersection sideswiping a minivan full of kids sending them all to the hospital while landing on some lady walking her dog sending her to the morgue. The people you just hurt and or killed never signed waivers or decided to consciously get hurt like that that's the huge difference.

O/R pipes don't quite do this type of damage and carnage.

That's totally different from street racing because at the track, all people including spectators understand that there is a potential for disaster and are willing to assume the risk. Also, in that environment, there are measures in place to minimize the risk (safety inspection, equipment requirements, safety barriers for the spectators) whereas on the street, soccer mom has none of those precautions in place and she certainly isn't accepting that risk. Cats are a gov't requirement that have nothing to do with direct safety issues to the general public, but long term theoretical risks.

Yep. I remember signing a waiver just to be a spectator at the track. You assume that risk when you go to the track, whether you spectate or participate.

The point I'm getting at, is according to the experts, removing your cats is a much more severe crime than street racing as it effects the masses, the whole planet could be endanger. The street racing is a minute point and is used only for example. The real point is the condoning of an illegal activity that could have world wide implications. Global warming is one of the hotest topics of our time. Pollution laws are in place for a reason and the responsable thing for any forum to do would be not to condon any illegal activity including the removal of cats. Window tint laws can vary, but cats are a national standard.
