Why is it legal?

I'm reading the thread, but will not comment as I feel this is a common sense issue about personal as well as others' safety and could ramble on and on about this and many more topics our society has let spiral out of control.

+1 for reading, understanding and following the StangNet policies and doing as Emay and others like him...finding those other forums that allow that.
So here, please :Track:

Be safe and enjoy all things Ford and Mustang!

So, if I street race while running an off-road x-pipe and get caught would that be life in prison or is capital punishment still a viable option? J/K.

I'm a firm believer in keeping cats installed on our cars. Let's face it, you only a gain a couple lousy horsepower by removing cats, so why bother.

I'm also an advocate for taking any racing to the track, but as a young adult I would have told you differently. When you're young, you feel invincible and street racing seemed like child's play. It took a very tragic accident (double fatality)during a street race that I was in to wake me up. I was not charged with any wrong-doing, luckily, as I had nothing to do with the actual crash (I was way ahead and nowhere near the other car that left the road), but I was in serious fear of criminal charges. In today's society, I suspect I would have been branded a criminal and sentenced to a long stay in prison. So, you'll find me at our local dragstrip quite often to get my need for speed satisfied. Anyone challenges me on the street and I simply ignore them these days.

Why O/R pipes????? The sound:drool::drool::drool:even if I lost a bit of low end torque:nice:

The temptation is there, but I figured a possible kill is not worth the consequence...so I too, let them pass.

"Death is certain, life is not"

Not to preach, but here's my first Mustang, and the reason why I don't race on the street. I wasn't exactly racing, but I was going 3x the speed limit on a dimly lit backroad. I didn't think I was hurting anyone. Hardly anyone is ever out there. But I took out power to a few houses, and put myself and my girlfriend in the hospital. I didn't walk without assistance for over a month.

I can't believe you are even here to post that story after seeing those pictures. Wow.

I can see and understand why street racing discusion would not be allowed while O/R cats are, but I can't really come up with an explanation. The different penalties for different crimes post was a pretty good explanation. While I don't completely believe discussing it should be against the rules, I respect it because, well, they are the rules. I see it as that there are plenty more forums we could go to, but since I choose to post here, I have no problem following these rules.

omg! Dark, that is unbelieveable. I get anxiety just looking at those pics. Glad ya'll are OK. I had someone turn infront of me once and there are somethings just out of our control. Was nothing I could do but slam the brakes and it still totaled my car. I will be showing my son those pics as a reminder why we don't speed.
holy jeebus!

I remember when you first posted the pics and story, Dark:(
My brother-in-law had a very similar incident as you about 10 years ago. He was flying down a back road with a buddy of his in a '94 Probe GT. He cut a corner way to sharp, left side tires dropped off the pavement and sent them skidding back acrossed the road passenger side first into a huge tree. His friend was medivac'd out of there and spent 6 weeks in a coma. Brother-in-law only had a bruise from the seatbelt and a few scrapes.
It's unfortunate, but it seems to take something bad happening to oneself or a close friend/relative before the light actually turns on:(

People who enjoy seeing photos of dead animals are those who probably see no problem with street racing.
I am deeply shocked that people seem to enjoy the death of an innocent animal. I would have taken the cat and the sign. I would have burned the sign, buried the cat and prayed for those who think it is funny.
Again, I am offended by this and am becoming disgusted by those who think it is funny.
Perhaps there is another forum I would rather be a member of.

LOL....then don't look at it. If you let a picture like that get to you then you need some serious help and some thicker skin

These post grew legs of it's own. The bottom line is respect, having respect for other people. A couple of cars running a round without cats isn't going to break or make the worlds pollution problem. However we each have a resposability to make it a better world for our children and we have to start somewhere. Others have to breath the same air as well as we do. What right do we have to break the law just for a couple of extra hp. These cars can be made to run and run fast legally, don't short cut, take the time to do it right and legal. There' no reson to remove any p[ollution equipment on these cars if there street driven. If you can't win with cats, then don't race. My piont is the same comon sense that say's you shouldn't street race to protect others should tell yoy to leave the pollution equipment on to protect others that breath the air as well. I don't wat to smell your stinky exhaust or do I expect you to smell mine. These offroad pipe question gets ask way too much, people should have enough respect for others to leave the cats on. If your that worried about an extra 1 or 2 hp, then pull out your passenger seat, no one has to smell that. Highflow cats are a great option to bump your hp and yet stay legal, we should be responsable enough to sugest that more. I didn't know this post would grow so large, I just wanted people to think more about the cat issue. Have a merry christmass everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
