I dont think it has anything to do with 9/11. The best explanation i've heard is that the refinaries are at maximum capacity. However, exxon just realized its biggest quarterly profit ever, so someone ones making money.

Its totally rediculous if you ask me. The LOWEST I have seen it since Katrina was 1.93 for about two days, then it never came below 2 bucks again. Last night I payed 2.5x for gas, today its 2.73. F'kn BS!!! Exxon made a multi-BILLION dollar profit, its just a mass of price gouging. There is no damned "maximum capacity" BS going on. Its coperate companies making a killing from the working man. I fawkin hate it. Its BS!!! I cant WAIT for another hurricane to come along, I garuntee you itll go up another two fricken bucks a gallon even if it doesnt hit jack *****...

And I heard today its supposed to hit 3 bucks by the end of the week. ***gots.

Yeah it sucks but if its not worth paying the $$, then walk. I dont like paying for it either, but what are you gonna do. We still have it cheaper than 90% of the rest of the world.

Id find it difficult for people that live 10+miles from town to have to simply just walk to work. Its just a matter of time before people (owners of gas stations/ companies) start getting shot for this bs. Im already looking for a way to start screwing over gas stations like they jack me. Theres a shell down the street from me that has defective pumps, sometimes you can just walk up to it without paying and pump all you want. Id do it before but I would go in and pay for it (when it was below $2 a *****en gallon) now ***** them im filling up and leaving! Ive had enough of this bull*****!!!!

It's not the stations faults, it's the big oil companies. The stations have to buy the gas at an already high rate, then raise prices more to make a profit. Most local station owners that are friends with people around here have told us they make profits of around 7 cents per gallon. 20 gallons only gives them (the station) $1.40 in profits. The big oil companies are making the killing on the prices.

Summers are always higher gas prices cause we drive more. Jumps up around spring break and major holidays. They go down in the winter, especially around christmas, because they want you to be in a good mood and feel like you have more money so you'll spend it.
Just my own conspiracy theory.

Sure paying the higher gas prices sucks, but honestly like someone else said, the gas is still pretty cheap compared to the rest of the world. And over the years gas prices have hardly increased at all, including no raises in prices for inflation. I'm not a tree hugger or anything, but seeing how much gas this nation uses, and the lack of price hikes over the last 10-20 years, it's still not that bad. It could be a lot worse.

Not to be a d*ck or anything but we dont live in other parts of the world. Were used to paying $1.50 a gallon here. Your right though cause if you watch ''Top Gear'' on the discovery chanel you know the host of that show pays anywhere from $7-11 for his ''petrol'' lol. Id rather ride a bike than get a hybrid pos

most other countries have jacked up fuel prices because of high tax's imposed by their govt...they don't do anything about it so F them... I don't see the republicans doing so well in the future round of elections and i am one.

The irony of a gas price thread in a 4.6 forum kills me

More seriously, they've come up with every excuse in the book for why the gas prices have risen, Katrina, Houston, China, switching reformulations, Venezuela, Gulf tensions, Iran, etc. There's been a million of them.

Unfortunately, it's very hard for most people to adjust to the price increases. More on gas means less on other things. A lot of people just don't have the flexibility financially to deal with $3+ a gallon for gas.

The only real thing you can do is try to reduce your consumption. There's hundreds of ways of doing that. Most of them involve changing your behaviors. I guess we'll see how high it has to get before that happens...
