Why is it Turbo systems are still in the dark?

For a stock block car, specially one with stock displacement or heads/cam, ect.. I wouldnt go any larger then a 62-1.
62-1 will pull 600rwhp, and maybe a tad more.
I would opt for the P trim wheel, on that turbo.. I think he has one with a P trim, or maybe that was the 60-1.. Either would be just perfect on a mild 302.
Depending on your cam/intake/ect.. You will need to match the exhaust housing.

Ex: Stock cam, instant boost, 1500-5krpm powerband I would suggest a
.68 a/r turbine housing with T4 inlet flange
or a stroker motor, a .96 a/r housing

see thats where im stuck on deciding on what turbo. im looking into a masterpower t-70 with .68 a/r. but my problem is i am not sure will i will hit boost and where it would begin to fall off. this is whats holding me back.
 
Personally I wouldnt go with such a large turbo, unless you have plans to do build a strong motor with an aftermarket block.. The T70 is rated at 840 horse, has larger wheels which equates to slower spool up time, and more rotational mass.

My point is.. with a turbo you don't want to go overkill, because you will increase spool up time, especially on a mild 302. SUre it's not a big deal to some, but when spool up time and drop off in power is important to you, you shoudl consider what Im saying. It's the same principal as some Honda boys throwing large T3/4's and such on there stock 1.6l and complaining about "LAG" ( I hate that word, lol) :lol:

My recomendation is.. 62-1 with a .68 housing. if you have the stock camshaft/springs/heads..
Or.. 62-1 with a .81 a/r housing if you have an aftermarket cam, or heads/intake. With the .68 on a basically stock motor you should see full boost around 2800rpm. with the .81 on a h/c/i motor you would probably see full boost around 3000-3200rpm.

with my motor, ported e7 heads, 70mm t/b, trick flow intake, the 62mm compressor and the 66mm housing, and the .84, where would you guess i'll see full boost? 3000-3200?

I'm so new to all of this that you're confusing the hell out of me. :D

All I know is my car is stock :P with a T-66 and an .81 a/r and all I can say is WOW! :hail2:
I still have a lot of work to do to see max power from this but "I SWEAR" that this is "BY FAR" the best power adder I've had......Period :flag:
This thing pulls like a mofo with just 9psi and on the highway.... OMG it's like WARP speed after 3K in 5th. I mean like 75-125 mph like it's nothing when it starts to spool with just a 1/4 throttle. I feel a huge rush at 3K but in b/t 4500-5K it is a whole different animal! When it goes over 5K the turbo opens up and starts boosting like a bat out of hell. Anyone wanna rush come on down to VA. :nice:
I'm still running the 3:73's but I can't decide b/t 3:08 or 3:27's.

well.....iron gt 40 heads, exlorer intake, 1.7 rockers, stock cam. so basically a cobra motor. future calls for a r 302 based 331 with new h/c/1. so i hoped to get a turbo now i could use later :shrug:

The SC history of the Mustang goes back to the very beginning of the Mass Air Mustang and the N2o history goes back even further. There were early turbo kit manufacturers that came and went (as stated already). Maybe the SC companies have somethig to do with it :scratch: just kidding.

The typical Mustang owner would have to wait over a decade before they could get a viable turbo setup, not due to lack of interest, but lack of support beyond the hardware. The cheap FMU's that you get with a Vortech does the job well enough to sell units. The early adopters of turbos had to spend a lot of money to get their cars dialed in by a custom chip burner with a dyno facility. These days, the average Mustang owner can do a lot of the tuning themselves with the aid of piggy-back systems or complete ECU replacements. This did not become available until the late 90's. It's a good time to own a Mustang with all the engine management available. This is a turning point in the history of the Mustang. Five years from now, Turbos will be just as synonymous with Mustangs as Nitrous and blowers. So why does it bug you? You should be happy that you are part of the evolution of the Mustang.

What the Mustang aftermarket needs is ONE good turbo kit manufacturer that can deliver quality on-time and support the product after the sale and NOT GO BELLY UP! That's what Vortech did for the Supercharger and NOS did for Nitrous. That's the missing piece of the puzzle. Dyno time is cheap and abundant, engine management is just as attainable. When the average joe can install it, and spend an afternoon at the dyno shop and then drive it for the next 10k miles, then you will see more people talking turbo over supercharger or nitrous.

That's my conspiracy theory.
 
I suggest to anyone interested in turboing and or even in the process of buying stuff but still not sure. Please read the Turbo Bible over on Turbomustangs.com You don't necessarily need to read the whole thing, but it will answer a lot of questions that a lot of you have and teach you a ton. I don't think there is one avid poster over on TM.com that hasn't read it. Its a great resource and tool to learn from. SO GO READ IT.

Yea I might post some pics today if I get the downpipe finished.. Thats really all I have left, that and to spray everything with that VHT header paint.
Just sandblasted everything and welded in the 02 bungs yesterday and will be working on the downpipe and wastegate inlet/outlet today.

BTW, after looking through that article on the Hellion power systems kit, it got me stoked on doing a very similar single setup on my 01.. How dumb was I to not think about it! Run the stock headers and just loop the pipes up front..too easy, and you can retain all accesories and simplfy install and fabrication by not having to even touch the headers.
