why is my car so slow

..... not to surprised... look what happens when someone on Stangnet talks about imports and has a TA for his avatar.... oh ps Stang is short for Mustang, a ford product built from mid 1964 to current

I gotta admit some of the new evo's, sti's, srt4's can be pretty damn quick. I remember I went to the track in englishtown to see the FFW in Englishtown with all the stangs and one guy raced a blue Focus "The Ford Racing one" or w/e and it ran like a 17 or something, (or maybe it was 15), and they were bragging about the time like it was amazing. I was just like :rlaugh: ...thats sad :nonono: And when i take friends for a ride in my stang and punch it in 2nd from a roll and get sideways they just go  :D :flag:

i think that when people say their mustangs are excssively slow in the 1/4 mile it may have more to do with driver skill than something mechanical. My 91 gt vert, completly stock except for flowmaster cat back with 2:73's would run 14.5's to 14.7's at around 95 mph. through the next 2 years with basic bolt ons I eventually ran 13.50's. I know that for one whole season I didnt have money to spend on the car and just kept practicing my driving on the track. I ended up going from 13.9's and 14.0's to consistant 13.50's and 13.60's.

Though Ive never perssonally looked into the costs of modding a 4 cyl. rice rocket, I cant imagine it would be all that expensive apples to apples when you consider the cost of modding a stang. For example, you only have to buy one head, one header, one head gasket for that matter..... Damn us and our 8 cylinder engines...... NOT!:nice:

That's the funny part, you see, a set of forged pistons for them cost more than 8 for us, and ours are bigger, one head cost more than two of ours, one this, one that, we get two cheaper. Then considering thier cars are twice as slow to begin with. That's why they say you pay twice as much to go half as fast. If imports were so cheap and easy to mod, why are decently fast ones so rare. If you go to the track and note what cars are running, and how they are running, you see the trend. When you see mustangs run, yeah there will be some really slow ones, some ungodly fast one's, but most will be pretty quick. You see imports, alot of very slow one's, most are slow, a few are decently quick, and maby couple are pretty fast, but really fast is going to be rare. Of course, that depends on your definitian of fast too.

Yeah, driver has a lot to do with it.

Dang something must've been wrong with some of your guys cars. The very first pass I ever made at the track was a 9.75. I ran a 10.4 with a 2.8 60' ft time, having to back out 2x b/c I spun so bad. This was with an xpipe, shifter, cat-back, and a 16 ponies and semi-new street tires.

9.5 my first time out. 1st month driving a stickshift on a set of Pony wheels with all season tires with 25% tread, cut a 2.3 60ft launching off idle. Hooked until 3k or so and broke loose and carried halfway through second. Same mods I have now, but with the stock H, all 4 cats intact, and no mufflers. Trapped 74. Made 4 passes.

EDIT: Take that back, intake was stock and so was the shifter. Something was wrong with your guys cars that was complaining about them being slow. 1st week with 3.73s also so the tirespin was new to me also.

my car i just rebuilt the engine pretty much to stock new crank pistons i thnk compression is liek 9 to1 the only thing not stock is the cam its a comp cam for copmuter controlled cars i gotta bbk cold air intake hurst short throw shifter stock rear gears bbk shorty headers O/R H pipe and flowmaster mufflers No A/C and it seems slow as anything like my buddys cadalac V6 kept up fine and liek other cars i would think to be slow like i have a hard time with its not that i think it is slow but i think it should have so much more... im confused.

Have you pulled the codes, done a compression test?
Those stock gears aren't helping tho, that seems like a Huge cam for a pretty stock engine tho.

make sure the spout connecter is Unplugged and check your timing it could be way off if it was set with it plugged in, i drove a 4cyl hatch for sale the other day slower than all hell and come to fing out the timing was 20 degrees off but it still ran so id say check it

Don't know why I'm even bothering to reply, must be bored. The statement claiming $ for $ an import will respond to parts better is rediculous. First of all said parts will cost more for an import than a domestic. Tb on import, way more the tb on mustang. I've probably got ten grand in my car, counting the car. With the horsepower I'm making, I'm just waiting for the block to crack. Don't fear to many four bangers, do respect other domestic V8's though, never know what they are packin' till the light turns green.

I beat a vtec prelude with my 1991 CORSICA V6 beater, the guy could never beat me... last run I could hear his engine popping at the red line... My Corsica was just a stock 3.1L with maybe 140hp  Since then I've been calling those honda's "Prelubed" because their owners must like prelubed sticks in their butts if they think those cars are fast. hehe PLus the Corsica was automatic and could break traction from a roll (maybe 30mph) when the kickdown engaged. My previous beater must have been God to the ricers with the 3300 V6 in an Old's station wagon. I beat a stock looking Civic hatch with an engine swap, that was supposed to be fast.

sorry for the rant, I just think FWD 4 bangers should be left for daily and grocery getting duty and nothing more. Sure some can be zippy in town, but that just means you can get milk at the grocery store faster than with other 4 bangers.

My 89 Mustang with the stock 5.0L and 2:73 gearing ran [email protected] <- this with a worn out oil burning engine. It could spin first pretty good and leave more rubber shifting into 2nd than a riced out honda can do with a j-drop and handbrake. :D

I had a 95 Grand Am GT back in 1998, while my friends had a 93 Beretta GTZ and another friend had a 92 Cavalier Z24 5-speed. We would always go at it, and my buddies Z24 was a jack rabbit off the line, neither of us could take him. MY friends GTZ was the fastest of all of us overall. We would get next to each other and from 0-80 or 90. His GTZ was no joke!!! Those cars were the chit back in the days of high school.:D

yeah the GTZ is cool and it's a 4 banger, I think it was 180hp with no turbos, no superchargers or NAWS! I prefer the 2.8L V6 5 speed Berretta though, those little sixers have a nice little sound to them.

As for imports not being fast, a friend of mine around here last year had a 94 dodge colt with a 4g63 turbo motor from a talon/eclipse ran a 10.5 at 148mph at Norwalk Raceway. That was a FWD sleeper that was totaled on a top speed run which made it 200+ mph. As for 4bangers, I have no respect for any motor except for the 4g63, those are unbelievable motors
