Why is my engine so Mediocre?

I thought when I first got into Mustangs and hadent bought my first magazine that when I put this engine together it would be a sreaming street killer. I originally put it in my 92 GT with stock AOD and 3.73 gears. The car did its job. I had only lost to a turbocharged Viper. I know many of you will say "then you were racing ****" but I went up against SS's and WS6's and the new Roushe which is equiped with that blower. I never lost. Being in high school and all my car was known around Huntington Beach and all the kids from the local schools with hot rods knew me. I thought my car was the best. When the tranny fell out I bought a new GT with the 5 speed, the one in my garage, and the one Im doing the motor swap into now...-MODS

How come when I look at everyones signature everyone has the best combo, but yet, no where near the power levels I thought these cars made. I thought when I put mine together I was at 350 without a tune. Boy did you guys give me a rude awakening. Most of you guys with H/C/I are roughly in the 270 RWHP and in the high 12's. Being in my car I could swear there was at least 350 horses pushing those wheels. Was there something that was wrong with it that made it that fast? And can the cars we have with the normal H/C/I hang out with cars like the c5? I wouldnt say Im dissapointed as this is the fastest car Ive ever been in, but the numbers are just plane discouraging. Also I have owned plenty of fast cars, so Im not really a young kid not knowing what he is talking about. Ive had 2 Vettes, a T/A, DS TwinTurbo, and 2 mustangs, and the stang by far were quiker.

I never had the money for a Dyno as lame as that sounds but I lived on my own and had to save every cent I had. I managed to get to the track once lol. It was the 1/8. I had bald 225 tires and a stock AOD but no excuse for the 9 second run. It was like 9.13 or something close to that.

Well I dont know, words like drivetrain loss and the like make me cringe, I dont understand why for instance when I built my car I was sure I would walk 03 Cobras, I never had a chance to line up with one or even roll one, I did however run a 05 roushe, and in here almost 90% of your dream cars are 03-04 Cobras... IDK how to explain my victory, he was stunned and I was also, but by the average numbers us mustang guys put up, it just doest seem enough to be able to hang with even the stock Vettes. Is this the truth? Is the only way to hang with cobras is with power adders? Dont get me wrong Im not gonna change my car I love the 5.0 and aside from the the 98 cobra motor my friend has, it is one of the best motors in my opinion.

That time with the auto isnt all the good. My stock motor behind an auto with just 3.73s and a converter went low 9s, and I hated every second of it. Dropped in a stick, and some sticky tires and went mid to low 8s (or low 13s in the 1/4).

On the street anything can happen, this is why slower cars can win. If your happy with the way the car feels, and goes against others, be happy, who cares what kind of power it makes!

Well think about it .. a H/C/I car can hit the 12s easy if your a good driver so it will give a stock 03 cobra a run for its money and will probably even win but once you start modding the 03 cobra its game over!

my friend with his h/c/i is at 325 at the wheels, tuned. Not too shabby. he pulls 12.1's. ditch your pos trans for a real one, tune it, and quit yer bitchen ;)

5.0 has far more potential than any car on the road.

My dad always said, when he was a kid, everyone tried putting big motors in light cars, and they were always the sickest car, then came the 5.0

Put a 351 in a 5.0 or a 408 stroker, and gaurenteed youll smoke 99% of what you line up aganist.

I dont have the auto anymore, but I would just like to think that with all the stuff done there would be enough power to beat up vettes and cobras. Idk thats just me. The sound of 280 RWHP just doesnt do it for me, and boosting just doesnt seem to enticing. Its the fact that you have to use that little thing to win. Nitrous is definetly outa the question, and I dont have the money to get a stroker going cuz I havent learned how to do that bottom end work yet and so I would have to pay for it. So I guess im stuck with this kinda performance. Just a question. i have the stock 3.08's in now but would like to put my 3.73's back in when I learn how to do it. How much of a difference will this make?

I just did that exact mod a little bit ago. They're a much nicer gear to have... not really the night and day difference of going FI, but definetly a difference and well worth the cash.

Dude I have been reading your posts and the further I read the more I know that 1: You dont knwo what your talkign about. 2: This is a useless thread and your just trying to make yourself look knowledgable. and 3: You are a BULL****TER!!

You have owned "2 Vettes, a T/A, DS TwinTurbo, and 2 mustangs" before you have graduated HIGHSCHOOL yet you cant afford 1 pull on a dyno?

Why would you even ask how much of a difference it would make putting your 3.73s in when you stated that you are putting them "BACK" in ???...leading us to assume that you drove with them b4 and should know how it feels.

Im drunk and in a bad mood and I dont give ***** about anyone's feelings I may have hurt in this post.

Have a nice night.

If your drunk, and having problems with yourself, dont post here please. At least not in my thread. I dont claim to be the most knowledgeable in here. Thats why I post here to learn. I have had 373s in my auto. I now have a stick with 308's I dont know how to change gears yet and would like to know how big a difference it is before I waste my time trying to put them in. I dont understand why you decided it would be a good idea to attack me and my threat, but :notnice: its all you buddy. I have owned the cars I said I did, bought and payed for by me or me getting loans. So after buying expensive cars like Vettes and Dodge Stealths, you dont have the money to spend 100 bucks for a 2 pull session. Im not even gonna respond negatively to you while you sit in your drunken stuper at 4 in the morning.

Have a nice night!

lol. SHouldnt be any difference installing the gears between an auto and a standard since they go in the rear diff lol.

I have bought two mustangs myself in the last year and I can understand the lack of funds for a dyno pull lol. That extra 100 bucks goes better towards gas or food than a sheet of paper with HP and TQ numbers.

First, is a stock Cobra really stock? It comes from the factory with a power adder. Nothing stock about a blower. Also, a stock C5 Vette with an average driver will run low 13's. With exhaust and a tune they're in the 12's. The 5.0 block has its limitations. Once the motors in the 450 to 500 HP range your living on borrowed time. You say you felt like you have 350 ponies when you get on it. You just might. After the 20% lose of HP in the drivetrain (more with the automatic) your in the 270 to 280 RWHP range.

I consider anything from the factory (except a tuner car) that's unmodified.....that's what the definition of stock is to me.

For a little 302 to me making the same kind of power as a 03-04 Cobra is asking a lot (390 flywheel hp) Although there are some street 302 combos that come close 310-330 rwhp (around 350-380 flywheel) And if you want a really badass 302 combo.....that might not be too streetable.....you can make even more than that.

Alright, saying a Cobra isnt stock because of a power adder is insanely ignorant. It is stock regardless of what you think, as is every other power adder car from the factory (GN, TTA, Syclone, Tbird TC, Tbird SC, Lightning, 3000GT, stealth, RX7, Regal... and the list goes on and on). Factory power adders dont make a car not stock...

wow...so a 03/04 cobra is in no way ever stock ? get with the program buddy, whats the difference in the cobra coming with a blower and a c5 coming with an additional 65 cubic inches over the cobra? YOU SIR BEST PUT ON A FLAME SUIT!

I think he means for a 03/04 cobra that is stock because it comes out of the factory like that. Thats just like saying that 05 saleen is stock for being a saleen, unless its a 05 gt with saleen mods then yes that gt would not be stock. Thats the way I see lol haha :)
