Why is the 94/95 talk different from 5.0 talk

everyone knows street racing is dangerous and could put others at risk (depending where it is done) but people are going to do it anyway whether or not some forum decides not to talk about it..

I dont know about irresponsible but you are definitely fooling yourself if you think it is safe.


I like to street race but I also do it away from other people so if something happens only I suffer the consquences from it.. it is just downright selfish to put others at risk for your own gratification.

I think most of us agree on that, but mentioning high speeds on public roads is bound to get someones attention.

Aboout the other thread, I got some good answers about the gears vs. speedometer vs. actual speed topic.

I'm still of the thought that our speedometers are less accurate as the speeds increase above 80mph. Take for instance at a drag strip: as you pass the finish line you may have seen your speedo at 120, however, when you get your timeslip it states that you only made it to 111mph. Now a while back when you were slower, you remember crossing the line at 98mph and your time slip was only 3 or 4 mph lower. Maybe the speedo is off by 10%, but when you're dealing with triple digit speeds, 10% is a large margin (i.e. 150mph on the speedo is only 135 in reality).

The same situation could be seen at a road course or an oval track and it probably matters more in those situation anyway, cause higher speeds are sustained for longer periods of time that would be possible on a public road.

This is not a big deal, but I thought it was a creative way to use the topic in the other post to gather some information that related to the topic. Just thought it would bring up an interesting discussion since higher speeds were the topic.

I think your approach to the topic was the problem.

If you had said something like, "here's a picture of the dash of a SN95 going 150+mph, don't ask my how or who, just know that it's real"

That would have gotten more respect or at least less disrespect.

Promoting street racing is not good though and people saying something is worth an effort (you say potato I say potato...yeah I know..). In my o, I am glad some folks mentioned stories of terrible events because it could make someone think twice. I also agree with illwood that a caption of a spedo @150+mph and suggesting racing bently's and the way the post was set up got someone to alert the mods (I didn't) but knew it was lock bait. We have to use some common sense. Like I said, I am no saint because I (might) have done a few dumb things myself.

This is a good thread and a lot of people are being able to let their thoughts be heard. I do think that not having street racing threads is fine with me. I like all the other stuff we talk about in the "talk" section.

But people grow up and mature. I got my stang when i was 18 and yeah i street raced all the time. But two factors started to change that im 22 now and i have grown up since i was 18 plus my car has gotten faster and faster over the years. I have A LOT less to prove to everyone else out there and i almost always pass up on a potential race now.

A guy in an STI had a couple of his buddies (teens) in his car and wanted to race me down a clear straight away a few weeks ago. He pulled up beside me and was revving and revving. I laughed it off and let him go on. Problem is depending on what he has done to his car, it might be close. That is even worse because then yo uget into a HIGH SPEED tango! Two cars hitting speeds of 150 and neither one wanting to give up coming up on traffic is bad news. EEEK! Take that further and imagine his simply makes an error in judgement and runs off the road or hits a family. If I live, I am partly responsible for the other driver. YUCK X 99! I was thinking that as he was revving it.

I hear you.

When I was 17, probably a couple months after getting my licence I was stupid enough to race an RX7 on a pretty busy road (in a buick park avenue no less). I shut it down after 160km/h and then put on the brakes hard to stop for the red light in front of me. if the left turn lane hadn't been empty I would have been in the trunk of a subaru wagon. The brakes were smoking and everything.

I pulled on the RX7. But the point is, it doesn't ****ing matter. I was an idiot for doing it and the 'kill' meant nothing.

It's all a matter of maturity. sometimes I think we have to make these mistakes ourselves before we learn the potential consequences of our actions.

I'm 21 now and I don't even think about racing on public roads anymore

HOWEVER

driving fast by yourself on a deserted road is different than driving fast and racing someone.

i'm completely with you, but i think it's just better that you just ignore the people getting on there soap boxes. maybe even better to just forget about the thread. it may be hard cause i understand the point you're tryinng to make. but it's just letting more people get on the soap box like they are perfect.

everyone here (including myself) has done a bunch of stupid things in their cars that at one point endangered the health or lives of everyone else on the road. if you say you haven't i call so there is no reason for anyone to get on Kyles back. noone here is perfect or does everything perfect or even drives perfect. people need to start checking themselves before standing on their soap boxes.

Whatever buddy... people need to check themselves more before they stand on their gas pedal.

I'm guilty of grabbing gears off a stop light too. But now I realize how incredibly stupid it is after seeing something horrific in person and I can't help myself when someone thinks its badazz to put themselves and others at that kind of risk. And the first responders who have to show up to the scene.

I don't think I (or anyone) has a holier then thou attitude for knocking someone for doing 150mph in a 12 year old mustang that is not setup to safely go that speed while street racing on the highway with his buddy in the car leaning over him taking cell phone pictures of the dash!

The whole thing that he was trying to say is that people do stupid things and that everyone on the forum has done something stupid...this is further proven when you just said "I'm guilty of grabbing gears off a stop light too"...so for you getting mad at him for stating this point it is totally uncalled for...The bottom line for this is that everyone does stupid thing but some are a little more extreme and the only thing that will stop that is maturity or something that happens to you or someone close to you.

Also nothing is going to stop someone from doing something because someone said it over a forum.

This thread also has been taken way off topic and the bottom line for that, is there should be equality through the forum with the rules...not one forum actually using the rules and another not.

His thread was also not that bad it was just further Proving a POINT that was discussed earlier in another thread. Is there such a bad problem with providing facts today? I know it was not the best idea but lets just leave it at that...you all made mistakes and stupid decisions.

if you ever talk on your phone or radio while driving, smoked a ciggy, drank something, or changed the radio you put yourself and everyone at risk. everyone has done stupid things in every degree. still no reason to jump down his throat when we have seen threads with memebers doing similar risk, but yet no one jumps down their throats.

We could ALL stand here and point fingers at people and admonish those people for doing whatever it is that could be considered dangerous....problem is, everyone has a different belief as to where that fine line of what's right and what's wrong is.

No one is going to cause a massive paradigm shift by scolding "street racers." I fully understand what you're saying here. However, if even ONE person happens to read through these threads and has a sudden epiphany that, "Hmmm....maybe this IS a dumb idea," then I'd say that the people that are reprimanding wreckless behavior have all the right in the world to do so. Good job.

Is it right that they can post whatever they want in the 5.0 forums or any other forum and we can't...maybe not ....but, IMO, that is why we have such a great forum.

Have you ever seen a restaurant with poor management thrive....while keeping a low turnover rate? Have you ever seen a restaurant with poor management keep the place nice and clean? I for one haven't (various fast food chains come to mind). I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm sure there are some with bad management that are kept in good order. But, in my opinion if a manager doesn't enforce the rules (cleaning plan, standards of the company, etc) and can't bring those standards to new levels, then that store is on the verge of becoming a failure. As a matter of fact, chances are that the employees are going to slack off and then that restaurant is really bad off.......IMO, the same concept applies. If mangers (mods) don't enforce the rules then, over time, it is very possible this forum could go down the dump. There IS a reason why we have one of the best forums.....and I don't think its because 94-95 mustang owners are just that damn awesome (or maybe we are )When the mods lock threads that have to do with street racing (or anything else they find to be inappropriate) it obliterates what could be a lot of disaccord..SOOO...good job mods :thumbsup: (PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT SAYING THAT YOU WERE STREET RACING....THAT WAS FROM A DIFFERENT OCCASION...I read it everytime you posted it )

To answer this as simply as I can, the rules are the rules and I am one of the few moderators here in this section. I do not have the ability to moderate anywhere else on this site other than the 94-95 sections, so unfortunately I can not control what goes on over there. I agree there should be consistency between the forums, but that is not something I can control but it is something I will mention in the staff forum. I have been on mustang boards since the late '90's and I have seen what over moderation does (and I really hope I'm not viewed that way) and what no moderation does. As has been said many times, a lot of people view this forum as being one of the nicest around due to way we treat each other and the fact that there is very little negative threads/post in here. 99% of that is due simply and completely to the all of you users. The moderation thing is there as back up in case something gets out of line or goes against the rules of the site. I really like our little of the section of the site and I'd like to uphold its reputation to the best of my ability.

Isn't that the entire point of everyone preaching to him?
I agree that everyone here has probably done stupid things, but the difference is that some people KNOW they were stupid and have stopped, while others think that what they have done is awesome and not dangerous at all.
If I meet some guy on the street that says, "Yo, I stuck up a liquor store, and it just aint smart." Am I gonna whine about how if he stuck up a store, he has no right to tell me not to do it; or am I gonna take his advice?

It's true that ignoring street racing isn't gonna make it go away. But that's not the point. If Mike doesn't want us talking about street racing, it's because he doesn't want his site endorsing an illegal activity. It's as simple as that.

I read the thread and you had stated that you had taken your car that high. The problem is that most people will assume you did it on the street(were they wrong?); especially if you don't mention it was at an SCCA event in Az(pretty much the only legal/smart place to do that) or something like that.
You also never state WHEN the other occassion was. All this tells us is that you went that fast more than once, and on one of the occassions you took a picture. Later on you said your friend took it. Honestly, you're friend is dumb for riding with you.
If someone gives you good advice, don't jump all over them like they're pointing their finger at you. You can sometimes learn from other people's mistakes, so that you don't have to live through your own.

First, the best way to get a top speed measure (accurately) is to use a GPS.

Driving recklessly on public roadways, regardless of speed, is completely idiotic and selfish. Injure yourself if you want; do not take me away from my family or my family away from me because you feel you have no other way to prove yourself.

Street racing and its derivatives of ignorance are not condoned on this site. This site is about the legendary Ford Mustang and the Enthusiast community that supports it, plain and simple.

If you feel there is variance in how a Staffer handles an issue or you feel there is something wrong about how the site is managed, make a comment to a Staffer about it. Their (our) names are in bold in the active user listing on the index page—they are not hard to find and they should listen to your concerns. Doesn’t mean they will cater to your whims, but at least you move through the proper channels and avoid making an idiot of yourself in public.

Each and every member on this site needs to take ownership over it. If you feel there is something wrong in your domain, report it. Every posting has a “report bad post” icon that sends an email to the Staff (for that sub-forum) regarding that post and the issue surrounding it. If no one takes action, then there is a Staff issue that needs handled at that point.

That picture thread floating around yesterday where some members posted questionable content was not cool at all. I'm disappointed in those who submitted the NWS content in that thread.
