Why is the 94/95 talk different from 5.0 talk

this is a serious question

why can they have street racing threads all day and we cant even mention it. for those of you that saw my thread about my buried speedometer, it was not about racing, it was just to prove that our cars can do those speeds no problem because there was a mention in another thread that could not. anyway, street racing, high speeds, and the thrill comes with the territory. its part of the hobby and will always be.

now i understand that some are not in favor of it, but that is the case with ANY issue EVER. there are always people that agree and disagree about any given topic.

For those of you that think its irresponsible and dangerous, well you are right. But, people do it anyway. I live knowing that if i do something wrong, then i will suffer the consequences. Its not like i am ignorant to what could happen, believe me i know. you can crash and die at any speed. Now you are entitled to your opinions, but calling me a tool or some fast and furious street racer just shows how ignorant YOU are.

so please dont close this becasue i am challenging the rules, but why cant we freely talk about the things that we like to do?

I tend to agree. Most of us are old enough to know right from wrong, and the simple absence of talk about the "wrong" won't deter anybody from doing it. You must remember though, that street racing can do serious harm to other, innocent people. You can't just think about yourself when you share the roads with everybody and then act recklessly.

If you hit a car with my kids in it, you will certainly learn how ignorant and dangerous it really is. If you don't die in the accident, I can assure you that you would wish you had. :) Not only do you risk your own life, but ones around you. You have every right in the world to risk your own life, but not mine or people that I care about.

I read a lot of your posts here and I think you are pretty cool. On anything but a closed road, you can't control someone backing out of their driveway, a drunk with his kids with him (it happens) running a red light or a stop sign or anything else. I love to go fast. I just don't do it anymore because there is too much to lose.

I'll get off my soapbox, now.

you have a 5.0 then just post it in there... there isnt a wall keeping you out or anything...

holy crap why didnt i think of that:bang:

do you think i am that stupid? i do post there and read it on a regular basis. very few 94/95 people post in the other section. so by posting there i am not communicating with the people that i usually do.

you are totally missing my point. this section is for us 94/95s, yet we are limited as to what we can say more so than everyone else.

We tend to consider ourselves to be one of the better forums out there as far as content/lack of bickering

I wouldn't call it groupthink

just a more mature group (aaron, guero and a few others don't count though :D )

Rules are rules and MRaburn who owns the site doesn't allow street racing threads. If you have a problem with it take it up with him. Whether or not any of us do it is besides the point as here in this place it is not allowed. Sure its a great feeling to beat the guy next to you, but do it at the track so you can also gain actual data that can help tune your car to be even better than it is, and help keep the streets safer for all.

I feel the same way, and the thread closing was nothing personal. If my best friend came on here and posted a street racing story I'd close it too and probably give him a tempory ban for testing me. :D

Seriously though, there are so many other things we can do and discuss here let's just obey the rules and not make street racing a part of them. :nice:

Aside from the street racing garbage (which frankly, I'm very tired of reading about) .......I see what you're saying Kyle. I brought this up myself some time ago. If a rule is made for this ENTIRE site ..... then why is it only enforced in certain areas?

crapola if you ask me. Ha, make me a moderator. I could easily wipe out a crap load of threads over there that are blatantly against the rules.

Now, I don't now if ALL mods on this site are authorized to take care of things anywhere .... or just specific places .... but someone has dropped the ball over there regardless. I have to say that over here things are under control. In part by our good mods ..... in part by the problems never existing. I have been a moderator on another forum a few years ago and the job is not that hard, lol. (at least not there) Maybe some of the one's doing it ..... never should have done it to begin with. YES, I SAID THAT!

ah the smell of dissent is in the air :D

green you know just as well as I do that you're on the immature list. lol

I love being immature.

I wouldnt have it any other way. :D

Its really fun you should try it some day. Preferably in front of alot of sober people while you are anything but.

im not trying to be an ass but if people like to street race and that is there thing they are not going to stop doing it because someone over the internet told them to...I stopped doing a lot of things when I wound up getting my $440 fine ticket (thats after going to court and getting 2 points dropped), but in the meantime my friends still do the same **** I did when I didnt care and didnt give a flying ****...people will only change the things they do when they hit them personally not by someone stating something on a forum.

but in reality if there is a rule then it should be upheld through all the forum areas.

To be honest I think street racing is really being part of a kid and testing some boundries and then people mature and they tend not to do it so much or stop.

i thought that it was a sitewide thing, but this is the only section where i have seen it enforced, so i was confused.

i still dont agree with the closing of my thread. I have seen you close street racing threads, so i have never made one.

the thread i just made was not about racing. it was just showing a picture of my speedometer and to our cars speed capabilities (like the other thread about speed cutoff). i mentioned about hitting a certain speed while racing just to tell about the vehicles capabilities. the picture wasnt even from that occasion and i even point that out.

i understand that if i were to post a video of that or talk about what i did last friday night, then i would expect to see it closed like simliar ones that have been closed. i meant no harm and i was very clear about my intentions of the thread.

I don't think anybody really thinks you're a tool and whatnot. Street racing is just such a hot topic now on a local and national level, not to mention the legal implications that have been icreased substantially over the last few years.

Now that the media has grabbed a hold of the dangers of street racing, almost everyone in our country has been exposed to their message. This forum/website has way too many members to ignore a responsibility to promote safety and such.........hence the rules.

I don't agree with street racing, but I only disagree now because my priorities have changed. I have a wife, and I have a responsibility to her, my family, and my friends. Time does change things for sure. These were not my priorities 10 years ago.

Even though I'm totally against street racing, I do completely agree that there are not enough outlets for racing, partiuclar the younger crowd. If you live in a big city, chances are the nearest drag strip or road course is an hour away or more. Having more legit racing venues won't stop street racing, but I would bet that it would reduce it substantially.

Check out You Tube and some other video sites and do a search on mustangs and what not. There are some great races on there. But, you will find a few street races where the races are literally happening in traffic and in neighborhoods.

As I said in the post that got locked..........."I'm bored at work, so sorry this is so long, but frankly, I just can't keep my fingers from typing!" :)

First off the owners of this site can do what they want. I like it here, so it works for me. I just see a difference in the mods on this one.

Now about my experience on a smaller, but more centralized site:

This debate has come up a LOT in my club. We have local law enforcement in the club and on the site daily. I run the site, I make the rules. So the monkey is on my back. I've heard both sides MANY, MANY, TOO DAMN MANY times. I've come to the conclusion and the local law enforcement has come to understanding after MANY explanations and some PROOF of the following.

Our "kill" section is a wonderful tool to bring in new people. People love to read them. I started the site as a way to help organize the local and growing street racing scene. It was booming. So much so, that we ended up getting offered some great deals on local track rentals and even some money from advertising.

We had a small period of time where a local sheriff went out of his way to harass anyone that posted a street kill. This upset myself and a the local track. Why you ask? He immediately caused a barrier to be put up. That person became upset, and wouldn't listen to ANYTHING.

What he failed to see was, myself and my moderators asking simple questions that help get the new person off the street.

"wow, nice kill... that's a quick car to beat. What does your car run?"
"Oh, you've never been a track?"
"A bunch of the guys are headed out there this w/e."
"Why don't you come along and we'll see what your car can really do?"
"Why? We can show you how to make your car faster based on your timeslip."
"Cheaper to race on the street? Yeah, if you don't get caught. But if you do, it's can be way more expensive for the rest of your life. And you don't learn what your car can really do."
"We even have a club business card we can give you... it'll get you in your second time for free, or you can bring a friend and get his car in for free on your first trip when you pay!"

Next thing you know, they are doing a LOT more racing at the track. They also don't have to PROVE their speed by racing, they have REAL numbers to share.

Does this STOP it? No... even I still do it. But I do it a lot less, and I think about where I am when I do it. Usually a quick block race will let you know if the guy will talk to you. So pull him over, chat for a while. Then start the conversation posted above. Next thing you know, on Friday night, you'll see him in line at the track instead of on Main Street. ;-)
