My 2.3 turbo car is killing my V8 and I'm looking for answers..

Body:
87 coupe tube front suspension, welded full length sub frames, 8pt cage. Stock rear lower control arms and welded/boxed uppers.

Powertrain:
72 351w, .030 over forged dished TRW. (8.5-1), Truck rods shot peened, stock crank turned .010/.020, cam is a Comp Cams .509/.512 268/280 dur. Heads are 1978 (Junk) that I ported enough to gasket match the big tube shorty headers/intake. Screw in studs and roller tipped 1.6 rockers. Edelbrock RPM performer intake. MSD 6AL, TFI coil, and billet dist.
Carb options have been all over the place and it has run the fastest ET and 60' with an edelbrock 600.
2800 TCI convertor, C4 with the B&M street/strip kit, stock driveshaft, disc 8.8 w/ 3.55. 26*9.5*15 hoosier quick time pro.

I been around the block with fuel pressure, timing, carbs, etc. and I guess everything comes back to trying lower gears.

When taking off, it hooks hard, the nose dips, spins then goes. So I'm taking the measures for traction now but I need to look at the overall ET and MPH.

When I had it running a while back this engine went 7.81@90 with a 4cyl 5spd and 3.73, before cylinder heads and headers and had the same edelbrock 600.

My best 1/8th from this car so far is:
60': 1.84
1/8th: 8.66
MPH: 78.91

I'm thinking of 4.56's with everything else being the same.
The 5spd combo was a 1st gear multiplication 14.8 to 1.
The C4/3.55 1st gear multiplication is about 8 to 1. Big difference.

Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas?
Sorry to be so long but I was trying to be thorough.

78.91 seems like a pretty low trap speed for your set-up. With you 60ft and 1/8th you should be seeing at least 81-83mph. I'd almost think that those "junk '78" heads are just that and is corking your top end? Those small port small valve heads aren't doing your heavy breathing 351 any favors...regardless of the port job!

Just a couple of small things.. the weight of the 4 cyl and 5 speed .. vs.. the weight of the 351W and the C4 ! 1/8 mile and the 3.73s of the 4 cyl and the 3.55s of the 351W!! you are going against your self!! get the power to KEEP the FE up and not dip!! do that with MORE torque... taller Gears ( 4.57s, 4.11's) or by advancing the cam up 4* . after the launch torque is corrected.. the mid to top will make it all happen!! Make sure the fuel pressure is ther at mid and end of the track!! the W will suck up fuel pressure vs the 4 cyl.. cool?? Sounds like you have the experiance... just dont let the simple little things throw you. Cool?? and weight is a BIG thing as well as low end torque!!

Have fun....

Just me...........................

Thumper

PS those heads have a Nasty egr "tube" ( digger than a bump) in the exhaust!! Port that out of there and see more power.. you dont need 1200.00 worth of Alum heads to get the mid 7's, work those or get a set of Ported E7s or GT40s..
