I think I just figured out why Team Mustang left off a hood scoop from the S197 Mustang. It seems they left it as a possible dealer installed accessory. You know, one of those "big profit" adders for the dealers.

I stopped by one of the local Ford dealerships Sunday morning since they had a couple of convertibles sitting out front. This dealership adds a scoop onto each of them. For a basic black hood scoop, it adds $4,000 to the sticker. For a body colored hood scoop, it adds $7,000 to the sticker.

Wow! our local dealer gets $700.00 to mount and paint their scoop, and i thought that was a little high.

$4K for a cheesy hood scoop? You've GOT to be kidding me. Are you sure that wasn't just the extra dealer markup with free hood scoop?

I think that's one of the nicest things about the 2005 Mustangs - they lost that retarded fake hood scoop they were putting on the previous GTs.

Of course it is.

But they get to not actually call it an extra markup, or "market adjustment", this way. Like no one would figure it out.

On the plus side, they do have a nice red Mustang GT convertible, with the red interior and a $7000 red hood scoop, ready for delivery to anyone with $$$$ in their pocket.

They left it off so they can have something to add in 07 just after the sales start to die off. They did the same with the new edge design. The scoop was available on 99 as a special package but didn't become standard on GTs until 01. Expect to see more 18" wheel options as well.

Exactly, did the first FOX chassis come with cool things like that, like scoops, and those side scoops by the door. They're addons for later years, but most lieky farther than 07 because it will take awhile before these stangs start to lose sales....

Bah you haven't seen anything. I went to a dealer. They had a gt with a $3995 mark up... For a color matching aftermarket wing. Which was actually the stock wing you have to opt out of.

Hau Thai-Tang made a comment along those lines. That it will be easier to add a scoop later to the S197, than to take it off once incorporated into the design. I think he was also making an off-handed comment about the Bullitt's side "scoop".

Look on the underside of an 05 Mustang hood. If I remember correctly, the hood is designed for a Mach-like shaker scoop. Might also make a good spot for a tack-on non-functional hood scoop.

My guess, we'll see a non-functional scoop as part of an option package. Then, if customers like the look, the Mach-like shaker will follow on a special edition.

I can only hope if they add it, it doesn't have the cheap, fake plastic insert that collects wax like a magnet.

No scoops = GOOOOOD!!!!

Add your own, Ford does not have a good track record in quality on those (bar the Mach).

Heat extractors would be nice though.

And still drips water hours after the car has been dried after washing.

To haties with the heat- let some AIR out from under there! I'm tired of watching my hood wobble around like it's going to come off at any second. Have you ever been on a two lane highway and watched the hood when a big truck goes by the other way. I swear my hood lifts a good two inches. Damn disconcerting!
