why such high oil pressure

my car for about two months has been running high on the oil pressure guage... i don't know if its broke or whats wrong..... sence i have the stock guage it reads to the TOP just below the "H" line... after it warms up its ok seems to run in the middle and lil higher... what causes high oil pressure? anything i should change check??? any info thanks

Stock gauges are not nearly an accurate method to determine oil pressure. Stock gauges are a joke..my old engine produced a nice level on the gauge when at idle..I did come to find out the reading on the gauge being 1/2 way was actually 10PSI on my car..not good, not good at all.

on a lot of newer fords will show normal oil pressure no matter what the pressure is. i have a 67 mustang that did the same thing... it was real high when the motor was cold and normal once it warmed up. never had a problem out of it. when i put a new motor in it, it has normal oil pressure all the time. i never figured out why it did that. but i dont think you will have a problem unless it stays high all the time. then you should watch out for bearing errosion.

Also, if the sender wire is partially shorting to ground (getting chafed, squished between components, etc) it can cause a high reading.

A real guage is a nice addition.

I just bought an autometer 3327 (sport-comp elec oil pressuer) on ebay for 22 bucks about 2 weeks ago. They're easy to find cheap, and are totally worth it.

Sounds like you might have a short in the oil pressure gauge wiring -- if the circuit is open (such as if you pull the wire off the sender down below the power steering pump) the gauge will drop to zero. But if you ground that wire directly to ground, you'll see it shoot to the top. The same result would happen if there's a short. It's also possible that the sender is shorted out internally, although unlikely. I would pull the wire off the sender to see if it drops to zero, or not. If not, that's a sign there is a short somewhere in the circuit.

At the very least I would put a mechanical gauge on it if only to just check your stock gauge. Like mentioned above stock gauges are poo and electrical gauges can short and vary also.

might that 10PSI have anything to do with why its now your old engine? lol thats terribly unfortunate.

we did the ground test and my gauge works fine, is just a little uncalibrated,
when its supposed to be max its a little below the line and when theres no continuity its way below the 0PSI line

anyway, to original poster i agree with everything stated above
