whys my car so slow?

The edelbrock rpm is made for high revving engines. I don't believe those heads do well at high rpms. You could try switching to a regular edelbrock upper and see if that helps any. What rpm are you shifting at?

EDIT: I'm confused, did you still have the stock intake on when you ran those numbers?
Yes it does. Pics from his garage.

Sounds like this is your culprit that is holding you back. An engine can only be as strong as its weakest link.

BTW. Sweet Car! :nice:

timing and fp are both stock 10* and 40 i havent really experimented with this stuff though because im afraid of detonation

drop fuel pressure to 36-38 psi and take the timing up to 16 degrees , those heads having a larger combustion chamber if they haven't been milled much will hurt your compression some so you can run alot of timing to get power back on the upper end which is where you are hurting by looks of the MPH you ran ......

ya something has got to be wrong i ran a 14.5 at 101 with just full exhaust and cobra intake....but i had ****y shocks and struts and spun all the way down the track and i had a 2.4 60ft...

is there something in my combo that would make me lose power?
I see one thing, if you have a friend that can let you borrow a Pro-M MAM, you should try it. THe C&L's are hit or miss. Some people who have problems with them are able to rotate them 90 degrees and get them to work better. It's just the way the air flows through them.

I don't believe O2 sensors would be the problem. They have gone bad in my wifes LX twice. Each time the car ran fine but I dropped from 20+ MPG to 15 MPG. I was told they will affect gas milage but not anything else when they go bad and that has been my experience.

CLiff :)

Guys, it's not the traction or 60ft. time, a bone stock mustang can run 98 mph in the quarter. So this time it's the car not the driver.

I have no idea why though, timing and fuel pressure could be an issue.
If your o2's are screwed up that could be a problem.
What's the timing and FP at?

All the bone stock mustang's (5.0L) that I've ever seen run 90-94 mph in the 1/4.....I've never ever seen one run 98 mph.

I happen to agree with that, just wanted someone else to say it, everytime i talk trash about c&l people that have them get upset.

BTW, maverick, what i should of said is cars with the minor bolt ons, such as gears, pullies, exhaust. I don't think i've ever been in a bone stock mustang.
My bad. I always associate the cars with minor stuff, as being stock.

You have a freak car. I've also never seen a 5.0 with just intake and exhaust dyno at 250 rwhp.
It's all in the little things that make it work.

You would be amazed on what you could learn with having unlimited dyno time and a bunch of parts at your disposal to just throw on and try.

I actually LOST power when trying on different shortie headers.
I tried 1 5/8" FRPP Shorties and 1 1/2" MAC Equal Lengths and both lost power.
I actually had to put back on the old nasty looking headers. Trust me I didn't want to. Then the power jumped right back up there.
Never tried Long Tubes on this combo. It would have been interesting to see.

I learned a lot, thats for sure.

I'm gonna have to go with maverick on this one. I've never seen a bone stock stang run 98mph or dyno 250 w/ intake and exhaust.
Throwing the B.S. flag!
 :rlaugh:

I suppose my timeslip is fake also.....
And that was on a night with poor conditions and a crappy short time. I could have iced the intake down and ripped the belt off and gone even faster.

mav/huntnfish - now you know why it's so difficult if not impossible to compare parts/combos/dyno numbers/etc. via the internet. 89sleeper's numbers are for real. Each combo is unique and some combos are MUCH better and some are MUCH worse right from the factory. 89 obviously got a really good one and then did lots of careful work to make it better.

I lost 3 hp with the addition of shorties as well. Unless you get up above 280-300 HP the stock headers - bad as they look - are simply not a restriction. Lots of money is wasted on shorty headers on mildly modded cars. The long tubes probably wouldn't have helped peak all that much but they probably would've woke up the bottom even more.
