WIDE TIRES....Is there a SAFE way to run wheel spacers???

Soo check this out.... when i used them on my fox with 4 lugs my wheel snapped off and i found it a half mile down the road.....

Im doing a tire swap on my 95GT and i know its gonna be close... REAL CLOSE. Im rebending my tailpipes, ditching the quads and i might have to bang in the inner fenders.... i measured the inside and 13.5 inches is cutting it real close.. if i ABSOLUTELY need to do 1/4 inch or half inch wheel spacers, is there a safe way of doing this without having to worry about losing my wheel down the parkway????

I posted a thread a month ago about pics of their sn95's ass pictures... and one car had 335s on it..... i can get a pair of 345s pretty cheap and i wanna do it... 345= 13.5 inches

I used to use 1 inch hubcentric spacers on my 95GT with no problems. Make sure they're hubcentric and you should be fine.... If you intend on running 345's, prepare to swap the quad shocks, massage the fender lip, and with something that big, other problems could still exist.

ill see but i dont thinkkk ill have to roll my fenders... i have stock springs and it sits pretty high above the tire... i think ill be fine.... i will lower it, but im putting that off until ik see how the car sits with 345s..... but i dont wanna go crazy to make them fit... ill just buy 335s... but somethings urging me to tryy a 345 and hope for the best lol..... everytime i think of wheel spacers, i think of my wheel snapping off again and it was scary..... if i gotta do anything bigger then a half inch, ill go another route... but hopefully i can do it with no spacers, removing the quads and beating the innter fender in.. i measured and 13.5 inches is VERY close...... maybe a quarter inch spacer would work....

Hmm i just read up on them hubcentric spacers.......seems like they bolt on to the factory lugs and thennn have studs of their own which passs through my wheels???.. I guess if i haveee to run spacers, ill look into these....i also dont want my wheels sticking way past the fenders like a homie ride either tho.. Hopefully just 1/4 inch is all i need... well see when i pickup the tires i guess

Yep...those are the ONLY spacers you want to run. Others are set to where you run your factory studs

yes well i have a terrifying experience with the crapper kind....... well i guess im just gonna takew my wheels off and and bring them to get mounted and see what problems i have when i try to put them back on....

Oh btw.. someone on my old thread posted saying that they had 315s on their 17x9 inch wheels.. they bubbled over but it didnt look too bad at all.... that said, can i fit 345s on my 18x10 saleen wheel fine??

I think that will depend upon the make of the tire. The 315's most people run on 9 inch rims are Nitto's which run narrower than MT's and other brands.

What brand are you looking at? Check out the search function, I know I've seen other cars running 345's, they might be able to help you.

with hubcentrics, you will have to cut the factory wheel studs down so they don't stick out of the spacers.. just so you know...

I had them with my old wheels with no problems...

i believe they are bfg orrr MT's.. not sure exactly which im getting although i wanna look for a street tire over a drag radial tho....

btw i typed in 345/30/18 and also 345/35/18 in the search and not one thread on the whole stangnet messageboard showed up which is why im asking.... how will i know if itll fit the wheel without having to buy it and hope it fits??? i have an 18x10 wheel

345 is huge and too big for the fender wells IMO. that's also why you don't see it around here.

TurboGT isn't 100% correct. If your wheels have holes in the back, the factory studs will go into them. some wheels don't have these extra holes, some do.

gotcha... well i guess ill see what happens when i install them... from where the quadshocks bolt onto, to where the end of my tire is is roughly 14 inches.... a 345 is 13.5.... it should be close without spacers, hopefully just enough space to be ok

Im running an H&R 1inch spacer, with 275 BGF sport tires, on a 17x9 rim, and if i bottom out or even close to it, the lip on the outer fender cuts into the tire, bad enough that it concerns me, i am going to have to get the lips rolled this spring.
I have no idea how you plan to stick a 345 in there, spacer or not

im curious as to why you run spacers with 275 tires???? did you have to?? or did you want to have the wheel spaced out??? i dont see why you would have to have them.. the quads shouldnt be in the way i wouldnt think??

Im going by what people say how they run 315 tires with no problems or having to do any modifications... soo i wanted to take it a little wider and do what i have to do to make it work..

I run it for the looks, when i put the cobras on, you could cleary see the front wheel face sticking out further than the rear, looked like serious ass, so i put the spacers on asap

I wanted to add one more thing...

If you have the stock style suspension on the car you will rub without question as soon as you try to corner hard. The rear end of a mustang moves laterally under side load due to its design. You will need to install at a minimum a panhard bar or watts link in order to avoid this. Being that I have a panhard bar... I'd say get a watts link as I'm not satisfied with my panhard setup as it still allows too much deflection.

There was a video on you tube that showed how far the rear actually moves on a mustang but I can not find it. You will crap your pants when you see how far out of the wheel well the axle comes under hard cornering.

Watch this video at around 4 minutes and 10 seconds. Pay attention to the rear tire and how it moves in and out of the rear wheel wells during cornering. This is the inherent nature of the stock style suspension setup. There was another video of this car that has been removed that showed this to be much worse when he had the stock 100K+ mile suspension on the car.

BTW- I like this car too!

If anyone else wants to see how a stock rear end moves due to the compliance and lack of lateral control offered by the stock designed system watch this video around the 4:10 mark.
