Ok im used to driving a v8 dakota with 3.55 gears
i got a 94 mustang gt convertible recently pretty much all stock cept glasspacks put on by previous owner.
It seems to ahve all its power 4k rpm and up but it shifts around 5200rpm according to tach and redlines at 5800ish
does this seem right? soon as i feel some power it shifts..

now my odometer and trip meter dont work but all other guages seem to work, just throwing this out there in case it might mean my tach may be off? or are these 5.0s just powerful up top and not so much down low?
is 5200rpm roughly the right shift point for an automatic?

the stock gearing+heavy vert has a lot to do with how your powerband feels. swap in some 3.73's or 4.10's, mid pipe and some pulleys and youll think you have a completely different car

That doesn't sound right as a stock 5.0L ususally feels REALLY strong down low and starts to run out of breathe at 5000.

What engine was in the dakota (1999 and earlier were 318's and 2000 +up could be 4.7l or 5.9l (R/T only))?

Dakota's are very tourqey down low. it is probably your gears that are killing the mustang. That is how mine felt with the 2.73 gears and I still have my v-8 dakota. It is only since the 3.73's that the car outpulls my truck, not I jsut need to get my gear install sorted out...

its a 2000 4.7L quad cab dakota, best time was 15.7 stock

the truck is as fast as if not faster than my car

right now i just want to get the car in decent running condition before i mess with it. I just want to know if this power band is normal or I need to fix something.

i agree,my car is seems to run out between 5400 and 6000(my redline).seems like its better if i shift at about 5500. i never drove an auto mustang b4,so i dont know if that is normal.mine definetly has more go from 1000-5000
