I have an 1985 F-250 EFI with a 460 in it. The truck runs great, but the rest of it is falling apart, so much so I am scrapping it. I anted to know if I could use the Block to build up a motor for my mustang. I was planning on taking it to a machine shop to have the block reworked. But if the Engine bay can't handle the size I am not going to bother.

Any advice would be great.

The width isn't a problem - the 4.6 mod motor is actually wider than the 460. The problem you are going to have is hood clearance (even with a cowl hood).

A custom k-member would probably be necessary. Then you need to get some sort of transmission on it. I don't even have a clue what trans would work on a 460.

Most go with a C6, which is an auto. This whole 460 swap is a idea that me and a buddy have been kicking around for a few months now. I don't want to steal the thread, but rather enrich it by asking another question... What all is needed to do a big block swap? Assume I have a crate engine with a carb. setup and has all the bolt ons, what else do I need? What is required when going from EFI to carburetion? Different fuel pump, throttle linkage, or ignition? Thanks in advance to anyone who could help.

Thanks for the responses, I have already removed the K-member. The Edelbroch Rpm II inteake did not fit under it. and that rubs on the rubber hood mat.

That's kind of funny that this thread got started, because I was wondering the same thing!! I've got an "extra" 460 in the shop that came out of a '95 F-350. I know that theres a lot of support parts (motor mounts, headers, oil pans, etc) for the fox bodies, but I have not seen any mention of the sn-95's. I just got the 5.0 in last year, so I'm not ready to jump to a big-block just yet----but it is an interesting thought!!
