I am getting my motor parts back here in like 2 weeks. I will have the short block, i dont really want to use stock heads so i will look for some gt-40s for cheap. I'm on a budget so i cant get an intake to go with it.

Would a B cam and iron gt-40s work well w/o the intake for a while or would the stock intake starve it?? It wouldnt be as much of a problem, once i get the money putting on a new intake wouldnt be too hard....

or would thumpers work well with stock intake??????

also, are there any valve differences on the gt-40s over the e7s??
i was thinking find a set of bare gt40s and use my valves while getting new springs and the like.

also. do the newer 5.0 explorers have factory forged?? the pistons are TRW

The lower intake holds you back well under 300hp as can be seen when you port it with the stock heads. Your young and seem to have lots of time why dont you read tmoss's site and port the lower yourself? The upper however is good for close to 300hp... The gt40s have larger valves then the e7s so your plan will not work. Buy a set of heads preassembled or your going to run into trouble trust me on this im going through a budget rebuild right now.

you can always send the lower to tmoss and he can port it for i think around 100 bucks....but im not positive on that (just what everyone else has said it costs). a set of thumpers will work great with a tmoss ported lower and stock upper. if you can get a set of gt40 heads than they will work just fine. the first bottle neck in the engine is the lower intake, so make sure you have that covered before you decide on the heads

Yes if tmoss will do it for $100 im not sure of his prices but if thats true you cant go wrong with that its well worth the money if you are upgrading heads and trust me its not easy work to get done correctly tmoss is your man for that!

The lower intake is the most restrictive flowing piece on the stock motor - so yes, it will hold you back. You'd be MUCH better off leaving the cam stock and replacing the intake(or having it ported by tmoss) than you would be leaving the intake stock and putting a "B" cam in it.

I would change the cam the very last. Gt40 heads and an intake improvement are better buys.

Thank you for the props guys. General pricing guide can be found on my site in the "about" then "services" section.
