eh i dunno a 4.10 does wake up a 5.0 pretty good, and those grand pix aren't all that great, i think if you get a good lauch and he spins (more then likely he will) you have a decent shot..... thats what i love about street racing, its not all about numbers

Stock 5.0's are slugs NOW, but they ran much better in their day-when they had new, fresh everything, and some drivers who knew their business. But that was 20 years ago. The 86 was one of the slowest of the Foxs with a matic also, nobody brought that to a race even back then. With 4.10's or not, its unfortunate what will happen to that poor car.

sorry dude, but i agree with the others, i hate to say it but i have owned several ls1 camaros and now have a 5.0, his pontiac will have a 6.0 ls2 if its a gxp, ( not your average 4 door famly car) there is a reason all the ls motors are nick named '' Gods Motor '' good luck and be safe!!!

i mean like all the ppl are saying here on paper the GXP is faster and the ls engines do pull hard BUT does he know how to drive?? I used to be big in the street racing scene around the suburbs of Chicago and I've seen ppl with much slower cars get beat just because the other guy doesn't know how to drive. our rule of thumb was if you had a good jump off the line or we used to call it the "hit" that was almost 2 car lengths before he would know what hit him. so keep that in mind

Ok sorry I guess im confused? If his car is a grand prix with a 5.3 and not g8 with a 6.0 than race him he may take ya, but he wont smoke ya! my buddy has one, and my 01 camaro ss used to dust him bad, i would run 13.0's at the strip. havent lined up with him with the 5.0....yet

ya his is the 5.3 motor, most guys here dont know about this engine, they all think its a 6.0 or bigger, the 08 grand pries had the 5.3 motor front drive, it goes ok but i think mine will get him to 80mph. with my 4.10s, if it dont win, ill park it in garage and buy a real mustang , 2009 gt500. seen one at the track last summer he was running 10.40s .not that many mods either.

headers with full cat back exhaust and 75 shot of juice, that has to put me over his stock 305hp , his weighs 3600 pounds too, mine 3300 at most. you guys here dont have no faith in these 5.0s.

we have faith in them otherwise we wouldn't own them.

you would be on the right track by putting full exhaust on a a small shot of nitrous, but you need to look into suspension tires and getting some seat time in at a track.

checkbook racer ftw!!!

anyway... a GT500 running 10.40 prob makes close to 700hp. they are over weight over priced piles of ****. they are a close 2nd to the supra for being dyno queens.

Dude, I'm telling you, if you're this confident about your '86 you're only going to be very disappointed. Not trying to rag on you, I just know first hand how slow the '86s can be.

we picked up my gt yesterday, its a tottally different car now, we didnt race yet but i gave him a ride in it, he was very suprised when he heard the tires barking going in to second gear, he,s having second thoughts about running me now, now he,s thinking about doing the same to his car, but his is front drive, any body know about how much it would cost him to re gear?

A lot of money.

ANy any mention of racing in future posts here should be done at the track. Street racing or discussion of it is not permitted.

UMMMMMMMMMMMM if you have that kinda of cash...do heads and cam and intake, little 50shot. YOU will smoke him for sure. But anyways, I think it may be a close race. I know exactly what kind of car you are talking about. Something like an old man would drive.

Before you meet up with that GTP at the track. Get a set of drag radial,a K&N filter, take all the extra weight out of the Mustang ( Spare tire, jacks etc ),also a nice set of lightweight centerline or weld drag wheels if you could find them used, underdrive pulley won't be a bad idea. Then sparay and pray with your 100 shoot of NOS. I think you will give that GTP a run for the money.

he admitted defeat, he went for a ride in mine today, he couln,t belive what the gears did, you should have seen his head hit the seat when i hit it hard, now he wants gears too, but his is front drive? mine was almost 700 installed ill bet a front drive is more money? i didnt tell him his would get me on the top end, happy with mine now, its never gonna see the track, just a sunny day cruiser.

$700 installed!!! Holy damn!

My 3.73's were ~ $400 installed. I purchased the gears and shims/fluid/bearings myself and the mechanican charged me $175 labor to install and set up. Did you get your rear end rebuilt as well?

Replacing FD in a FWD car is very expensive. Depending on the trans/engine layout, he'll either need to remove the transaxle or pull the entire engine. Very labor indusive. I'd estimate $1K+
