I have a 331 that i am going to strap on a 175 shot to at least maybe 200. My transmission is just the basic tremec 5 speed. Do you think it would have a chance? I wouldn't mind going with a smaller shot but would like to get the 175 to 250 kit. THANKS

Dunno... the first question that hit my mind when I read your post is: "Will the BLOCK handle it?"

Yea which tremec is it? and i agree with daggar, your trans really depends on how you drive it, the block will most likely split first.

If it's just a Tremec T5, it'll die eventually (on the other hand you can kill it will one power shift if you really want). If it's at least a 3550, it'll hold up good if you don't power shift. IMO, a good way to save your trany is to have an "average" clutch....at least that way your clutch will slip before you blow a gear.

I have a friend who has the same 3550 as i do, and he runs 10.50s with a 347 and nitrous, but i don't know what size jets he's running. He doesnt power shift though.

Ya its just thetremec t5 it ws only 1200 or so the cheaper one. Why would you think the 175 would blow up the block? I'll probably be under or around 450 at flywheel I thought these blocks could handle 450 to wheels? Well maybe it sounds like I should just go with a smaller shot for now like 100. Think things would hold up then? Thanks for the advice so far.

Hmmm....my Tremec 3550 was 1200 new.... Also, the block can maybe handle that kind of a shot, but the connecting rods most likely won't, maybe not the crank either. You've gotta remember that the guys pushing that 450 or so at the wheels also have built internals and professional tunes. You take a 175-200 shot on a stock motor with your average garage guy tune, and one detonation and you can kiss something expensive goodbye.

Also the shop that built my motor is the one who suggested a 200 SHOT? I thought that that sounded crazy! But it does have forged internals and a main stud girdle. But it still sounds like I should start with a 100 shot. Any more advice thanks.

A good 331 should have you over 300. Adding a 150 shot puts you around 450, which is block breaking territory.

ok so I got my sign going. See I built my motor with the hopes of putting on a sc so it is low compression dished piston so the power isn't really up there as much as it could have been. So with what you know what shot youd you suggestd thanks

just to be safe i wouldnt go over 175 shot, thats what im going to run on my motor, and im hoping for 400 + flywheel horsepower NA plus the 175 shot = 575 flywheel which is the most i would push a stock block.
