I really want to avoid the $500+ in tuning. I was told that a9l is a lot better for a t-5, so my question is is the a9p better for our autos?

First off, an A9P IS an auto computer, but for an AOD - it doesn't actually control the AOD, it just has a different calibration. Your computer actually controls the tranny, so you can't do this. And if you even wanted to do this, you'd need a harness adapter, an A9P EEC and a Bauman tranny controller. You'd be left with a stock EEC, loss of fan control and a much worse way of controlling your transmission all for lots more than the $500 you do not wish to spend.

If I wanted to, I could do a chip for your current processor that would almost exactly mimic an A9P, but you are much better off getting a calibration for a 94-95 - you need it with that E-Cam and an auto. Mail order chips (from us) with 4 programs are more like $300. With that you get a perfomance boost, better idle and an improved tranny.

Hope this helps,

Don

It does help with my decision. My only problem is that once I change my maf and inj. then I would have to send it back to you to reburn it and that's more $$$$. This guy just switched out the stock computer to a A9L on his 5-speed and never looked back. He said that the computer swap took care of a lot of small problems he had been having with his car. I'm really thinking of getting a tranny swap and doing the same but can't find one for a decent price. Also, do you think a 3200 stall would help with the idle problems? Since the tranny won't feel the change from P to D or R, wouldn't that work?

If you do a swap to different MAF and injectors you really need a dynotune - we only do mail order for stock MAF and injectors because of difficulty nailing a tune for different MAFs.

A converter won't do a thing for idle problems.

The best thing you could do at this point is get a more automatic friendly cam - the E cam is a great cam, but it can be a pain with an auto.
