Will the computer learn my new setup?

Hi,
The computer has been sitting without power for 3 years. I am wondering if the computer will "re-learn" to get the most out of my setup?

If not, is there anyone in Colorado that can lend me their tuning program in a couple of weeks after I start her up? Or should I just invest in a chip? Dollars for Horsepower is a chip worth it?

Here is the setup: 73mm Meter, 70mm TB, ported Explorer intake, AFR 165 heads, 1.6 RR's, Comp Cams XE270 HR, stock bottom end, shorty headers 2.5" exhaust, H-Pipe, Dynomax Super turbo's.
 
Concern because alot of people have problems with c&l meters, most people have to tinker with them for a while to get a decent idle, by tinker I mean clocking it differant places until you get a good idle.
 
It's hard to say how drivable it will be. If you're running the A9x series EEC, it should be pretty forgiving toward mods, so it's all about what the adaptive strategy relearns about your combo. I can't predict if you'll experience any drivability issues though. The concern with the 73mm MAF is likely because it's a C&L. Many people have had issues pertaining to that particular meter, but it's nothing a tune can't fix. Your question of dollars vs. horsepower is really up to you. There might not be a lot of horsepower on the table with a tune, but it could be the difference between whether it has any drivability issues (surging idle, dying when coming to a stop, etc.) and stock drivability.
 
I heard about the C&L meter issue, but like many things, you have to take the good with the bad. I suppose if the meter gives me too much trouble, I can always switch it out.

I have the A9 series EEC for my Auto trans. (I did the search thing before posting - 3yrs without power concerned me) From what I have read, the A9 series is the most adaptable.
 
I think perceptions about the C&L meters are changing with the self tuning devices available now. With people datalogging their combos, they're able to figure out their MAF transfer values and have it be every bit as dependable as the Pro-M once tuned. I'd say get it running and see what you need to do from there. If it learned your combo once, it should learn it again.
 
Rotating the entire meter to change the location of the elements inside. Sometimes reclocking the housing can alter the airflow across the elements and solve any issues related to the meter.
 
Rotating the maf around the inlet tube either clockwise or counterclockwise to move the little sensor around from being straight up.

The computer will learn your mods, but you won't get the most out of it, and you may have minor driveability issues at times. To get the most out of the combo you'll need a tune, but I'll be honest, I've run mine for most of the past year now without a tune, and it goes fine.
 
I never would have thought that rotating the MAS would change anything?

sometimes the element is in a turbulent position, and clocking it will move it to a better spot on the intake tract, with less turbulence. before clocking, i had a bad idle and it ran kind of rough at times. turned it about 120* and the issues completely went away. and fwiw, these computers can adapt to some pretty major mods quite well. when i finally get around to my hci, i will be taking it to a dyno shop though just to get the most out of it...
