Window regulator: attaching channel guide bracket

OK, I've been messing around with this thing for a couple hours now. A screw managed to back its way out of the channel guide bracket on my driver side window and gum up the works in the regulator. Being the idiot that I am, I managed to crank it hard enough to actually bend the channel guide bracket

Got a new bracket, fitted it on to the regulator, and now I'm trying to get the dang thing to line up with the window so I can screw it on. The Ford shop manual and Chiltons both simply say "Position the channel guide bracket to the glass channel and install the three attaching screws." I've been cranking it up and down and trying to get the dang thing both lined up with the window and in a position where I can actually get a screw driver in there to no avail. Is there some trick to this or am I just stupid?

Edit: This is on my '68 coupe, by the way.

Total guess here but you may have to have someone grab the glass and physically pull it back so you can get the guide in. It stands to reason that without the guide, the glass fell forward and needs to be pulled back...or vice versa.

I had my dad moving the window glass around yesterday while I tried to match up the bracket. I've been unable to match up all three screw holes at once, I tried just screwing one end in then cranking the regulator up and down a bit to try and line up the others but that doesn't seem to be working. I'm starting to wonder if the regulator might be out of whack.

i just rebuilt my driverside from basic wear and tear. took my and my grandfather (ford assembly line worker in the 60s) 4 days to get the damn things to line up. Imagine that old parts actually bend with time. Good luck.
