Window switch for nitrous?

I was reading another thread and they said you would be stupid not to have a window switch when launching in first gear with nitrous. ( and don't miss a gear)

What does a window switch do and is it a good idea? How much are they, who makes them and do you have to have your car re-tuned after install?

The window switch allows the n2o to come on at a certian RPM and as long as the throttle is wide open and it also tells the system to shut off at a certian RPM. So if you set it to come on at WOT @1500 then shut off at 3500 even tho your WOT at 3500 it will still shut off! I have a summit brand one not shure of the price for it but they range from like $100-$250??? I would hook it up or atleast get one. As far as i know (and thats not much) you shouldnt need a retune after the instal of it. Do ya really think you'll need the bottle to beat my 92 ???? peace

ya I don't have one I just mat it once I'm in 2nd and its always on when I hit WOT. Might have to look into that. Work fine this way though at the track.

Yeah window switches are a great safety device. I have an msd window switch and i havent heard a bad thing about them from a bunch of people ive talked too

Cool. Great, something else I get to buy. No wonder my wife hates my car.

It woked fine for me too, till I blew up my throttle body blade which bent in half, stuck the throttle wide open and destroyed my dual friction. I think I might be getting one.

I have BMN one with a first gear lockout switch, and its sweet.

the main reason you want a window switch is to Idiot proof the system ,so you don't spray at too low of an RPM and get a n20 backfire or hit the rev limiter on the spray and blow everything sky high.

We installed a MSD unit in a car last year, pretty nice. They have a digital setting and display that will do tach function as well and run around $120ish. No pills like the cheaper MSD units

A window switch is a good idea however i have been running Nitrous for 5 years now without one without any negitive issues.

yea, but this is Stangnet and I know I dont want to be the one that said it isnt "needed" We dont do a lot of the things we recommend, it just never hurts to be extra safe on something that so many people manage to mess up.

Its a nice piece, and the parts you explode when you have a nitrous explosion make it a very worthwhile investment.

Yes i would never suggest to skimp on safety equipment but things like a sfi bellhousing (scattershield) would be a better investment if you don't already have one. yes the window switch keeps your top end from launching through your hood but the scatter shield keeps your feet connected to your legs if for some reason the flywheel/clutch desided to self-destruct.

Agreed. There are too many people who run nitrous kits without bottle heaters or window switches...or correct air/fuel ratios, for that matter.
