Windscreen Wiper Arm

I can try and get a pic this evening. Under the arm there is a tab you have to pull out (or is it push in?) to be able to pull the arm off the stud. Years of crud get up in there somehow and it's sorta tough to do, but it should come off with some wiggling and maybe some light tapping.

I just wedge a screwdriver between the base of the arm and the cowl, then pry it off. No tabs on my arms, but alot of 40 year old cars have replacement arms so theres no telling what you might find.

I put a towel on the cowl, then a half inch piece of wood on the towel, and then used the claw end of a hammer and slowly pried up. Worked like a charm; off in about 20 seconds per side.

Mine were;, There is supposed to be a little clip that you push IIRC, but over time it's been replaced/broke?????

For my 68 I just wrapped some electrical tape around the jaws of a pair of vise-grips, adjusted the "pinch" carefully and they just wiggled off. LOTS of little wiggling and maybe 30 seconds per. No tabs, no wedging.

I just wanted to point out that there is a proper tool for removing the wipers. It clips on under the ball and helps you to wiggle it off.

I have used a screwdriver with great success throughout the years under the ball before by prying on the section directly away from the wiper blade. Of course you need to place something on the cowl to protect the paint/body.

Well, I took a couple pics of the wiper ends I have. This was the least blurry, sorry, but the digi cam has a problem I can't figure out.

Numbering them from the bottom to the top 1 thru 5, #2, #3 & #5 are the same but #3 is missing it's metal tab. #1 is similar, but doesn't have the flange around the base, #4 doesn't have the flange, but the tab is on the outside. All of the wiper arms shown are Trico brand, I don't know if they were OE suppliers or if they're all replacements. I believe #2 & #3 came off my Mustang and the rest came with a parts car I bought.

I usually take a small flathead screwdriver and put it between the tab and the post and then work the wiper off the post.
