Windsor fox EFI conversion - hard time starting

I have a hard time starting my car. It has the Windsor fox EFI conversion harness and the problem is the following:

When you are turning the key to the 'start' position, it it turning over, but it really isnt firing. When you release from the start position, it will try (and most time successful) fire and start right up. If it doesnt, most of the time it will flood it and you have to wait, etc.

I replaced the key switch hoping it would help and even 'hot wired' the coil (it will always start with that)

Is there something that I am missing where it is not providing 12V to the coil while in the start position, but only the run position?

I'm betting that you don't have the coil circuit wired correctly. First I would call Windsor fox and ask them to walk you through it, but aren't they put of business?

If so, you'll have to troubleshoot it on your own. You need to make sure that the ignition circuit has power in start and in run. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

I wish I could be of more help but I modified a fox harness so my wiring is different.

I have the windsor fox harness in my car also. The 2 wires that you have running to the ignition one is the key on 12v and one is 12v crank power only. you may have the two backwards.

Also check the Voltages at the TFI connector. On the TFI connector, the #3 wire should have voltage only in start. The #4 wire should have 12v while the Key is in start or run.

Oh yeah... Windsor fox is out of business, so I am on my own (not a huge deal)

The strangest thing is that it will work sometimes (or is easy to start) and others it is almost impossible (especially when its cold). I didnt have much hard time this summer and it seemed to be great. It was this past week where it was impossible... but yet again, it seems to start finally. Not after flooding a ton and it actually backfired as well.

I will let everyone know... but it just takes me a while to get out there to work on it.

Ok, i misunderstood your problem . If the car started in the past and you are just now having problems i dont think the wires i described are the problem.
Have checked your computer for codes?

I may have misstated the obvious... during the warmer weather, I still dont think it was 'firing' during the start cycle, but the engine would START when I turned the key to the run position. Right now it is almost impossible to start (I tried this morning again) and the cold is making it very hard. It turns over and when you go to the run position... it wants to backfire, or something... but not start. I did get it started a few days ago, but only after at least 15 min of trying and a min of one serious flooding... so I dont think it is getting 'spark' while in the 'start' position...

I finally found it... on the bench (or in the car w/o it running) it would pass all the key on/not start and start tests... but when you actually looked at it while actually trying to start, the voltage on the start pin to the TFI would drop... not all the way, but low enough to not start. I actually had to run another wire in the harness to the TFI, as everything else was there... now it works just great.

Must have been something in that wire in the harness, but all is good now!
