Winter Tires?

I know most people say run all four but would it make a differece with just 2. My main tires are all season so I was figureing just putting 2 winter tires on the back to save some money. What do you guys think?

It's true, best is to get all four. If your regular tires are reasonably good in the snow as it is...just get some blizzaks in the rear.

Get all 4 for a RWD car


You move with the rear two, but you stop with the front 2 tires mostly.

In the snow, you'll want all 4 wheels grabbing as best they can

the only car I would consider just 2 on is a FWD drive car. Ours really should have all 4 as previously said.

Yeah, 2 really isn't as great of as an idea as one would think.

You need to get all four. You should be able to find a set of Blizzaks for $200-$250 on fleabay.

You need fronts to stop and to steer. I wouldn't buy a used set off ebay though. I just bought a set and read articles saying these things only last 3-4 seasons. Also, the outer 55% of the tire has the real "ice grabbing" rubber. The last 45% is designed for snow, but not ice. So, if you buy a used set you are missing out on the best grip. I got mine from tire rack with a set of steel wheels for $650.

Blizzaks make mine perform equally as well as other cars that I've driven in the snow, IF you exercise some caution and common sense, from grand prix GTs to an SRX (but the 4wd was noticeably better if I pushed at all)

Which tire size did you go with? I got Blizzak Revo 1 in 215/60/16...I think.

mine are 225/50/R17

Your supposed to go smaller and taller in winter. Only reason why mine are 225 is because I bought them used from a guy I know(had them on his 03 Mach 1).

taller isn't so much an issue as skinnier is when it comes to winter handling. (obviously you don't want to be running with 2"s of sidewall, but factory sidewall is sufficeint)

I bought mine used or I woulda picked up spe V6 wheels for a bit thinner path. So far my blizzaks have done me good.
