Wiper Blades?

Has anyone upgraded to longer wipers for their S197? If so, what size(s) did you end up using?

have not heard of it. a way to get a good idea would be to mark the current wiper path on the windshield, and check for clearance on both ends. also be sure to check the point in the path when they are the closest together. if you have a half inch of clearance, you can go one inch larger, because the length would be split in half on either end of the blade.

try it out and let us know.

Thanks bigcat! I took a look at it, and it seems we're stuck with 22" driver's side, 20" passenger side. Going to 24" / 22" would be pushing it. I looked at the markings and the Stang wipers look to be sized appropriately.

On my Crown Vic, the manual states to use 22" and I upgraded to 24" w/o any problems. I can probably go 26" for the passenger side...

I don't want to offend anyone but...

Seriously is this forum actually discussing "Modding" windshield wipers? Is that all we have to talk about? I guess some people taking modding way to far. And who actually needs advice about what how to do it??? Seriously is measuring 1 or 2 inches that difficult that you need to start a thread on a forum??

I guess times are just slow in the winter months we trying anything...you must be bored to mod your wipers.

The Stang is actually still garaged for the winter. I was impressed with the frameless wipers I bought for the Vic so I was curious about what other S197 owners did for their wipers. I may upgrade the Stang this spring.

I personally turn them on and then off? that about all i do?

occasionally replace them with the cheapest possible. To save money for MORE INTERESTING MODS!!!!

Personally, I'm pretty interested in the frame-less wiper blades, but then again I live in Houston where it rains, a lot, like all the damned time...

For the rain season, I just use the gel rain-x stuff you buy at Wal-Mart along with the Rain-X orange wiper fluid (winter formula). When combined, I no longer have to use wipers above 45 MPH. The only time I have to use wipers is behind traffic or in the city.

For the snow season, you can't get past the salt residue so you must have functional wipers and plenty of wiper fluid. European cars have heated windshield wiper fluid for the windshield AND headlights so the HIDs don't glare oncoming traffic.

Another Houston Stangnet member. But I really wouldn't say that it rains all the time though.

Doesn't rain all the time... but the weather has been tripping out lately. Cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon. One day in the upper 70s, the next in the 40's.

That's pretty much the norm in Michigan. We have a differential of about 40F during some seasons: 40F in the morning, 80F in the afternoon.

Right now it is 0F, but the past few days it has been in the -15F to -10F region with a -30F windchill or lower. It's supposed to warm up to about 23F today, so it will feel like summer. Usually I can walk around outside without a shirt when it gets into the 30F area.

Doesn't rain all the time... but the weather has been tripping out lately. Cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon. One day in the upper 70s, the next in the 40's.

same here in Ft. Worth it's getting pretty ridiculous. I'm fine when it's in the 50s to 70s but other than that it sucks My heater barely works, the ac is even worse, and the wipers don't even function. I guess that's what I get for driving my great grandmothers car.....

Actually, I've been looking for some good wiper blades. This isn't a "mod" but still, I like my Mustang to be in the best condition as possible. And for some reason, my blades seem to streak. Nothing worse than having that one streak of water across your line of sight!

Wiper Blades

Don't understand why anybody would want to put longer blades than the car was designed for. You'd have less pressure per inch which might cause more streaking.
I am using Bosch Icon blades, best I've ever found.

It doesn't look like we can use longer blades on the S197, but longer blades on the Crown Vic increases sweeping area. I already upgraded to longer blades on the E-250 about 6 years ago and haven't run into issues with streaking.
