I recently purchased a 1992 GT 5-speed that was a theft recovery. IT had several engine components stolen. I am at the point of completing an engine installation. At the end of the engine wiring harness,( this wiring harness has the injector wiring) for the passenger side, there are two round female wire plugs/connectors. Both plugs have two wires each. One has a grey/red wire and a green/red. The other has a red wire and grey/yellow wire .
One is for the coolant temp. sensor BUT which of the two it is?
Also what is the second connector for?
My wiring diagram calls for a brown wire for the coolant sensor. Thanks in advance

Wiring Harness

It is probably not for the charcoal canister. Both plugs end above the No.1 cylinder. Both plugs fit nicely on the water coolant sensor. The only way it could be for the canister is that the canister(which has been discarded) had a wire running up to the remaining plug.

Almost guaranteed it is for the Charcoal canister purge valve. The connector is right there in the front by the coolant sensor and looks exactly like it. At least on my 89 is, so I don't see must difference between mine and yours.

Not sure if you already have this diagram, but it sounds like it is for your canister purge valve, and the coolant temp sensor

hope this helps

Still kinda new to this forum, not too sure how everything works. Looks like the last pic didnt show up so here we go again

Yes, the canister purge solenoid does have a couple rather long wires running to it, probably about 18"-24"

One is for the Charcoal canister, one is for the ECT sensor. The one with the Solid red wire is the CANP purge solenoid. It has 12v, and should not be hooked to the ECT sensor. I cant remember the pin out. But if the Red wire on the Canister purge connector lines up with the SIGRTN(grey with red tracer wire) then it could fry the ECM by blasting 12v to the SIGRTN.

So dont use the connector with 12v for the ECT sensor.

Thanks to ALL that replied. After looking at a friends 88GT the plug is for the Charcoal cannister. The cannister has a wire that leads up to the connection I was asking about. Case solved and thanks again for helping a noobie.
