wobbling crank pulley

i noticed today that the crank pulley was wobbling...the motor doesnt vibrate or anything but the pulley wobbles. i was told that its the thick washer that is worn out but nobody sells them. could it also be a bent pully...i checked to see if it was loose with the belt still on and it felt tight. ill try loosening the belt and check it

any other ideas?

Your harmonic balancer's probably on its way out, I'd get a new one asap. Unless you want to be forced to build a new motor. I got a new one from 50.resto for 90 bucks, its a really nice piece. I highly suggest getting it.

remove belt. Remove pulley, youll probably need an impact wrench to remove the big bolt that holds the balancer on and youll probably need a puller to pull the balancer.

Hold up a minute...

Is the pulley wobbling or the balancer? Usually guys complain of the balancer ring wobbling from the rubber that bonds it to the hub failing. It's pretty rare for a stock pulley to bend, but I have one on the shelf from a customers car that bent when he dropped a 1/2" wrench into the belt while setting the timing.

For a balancer if the ring is wobbling, stay away from dang near all of them under $250 unless it's a stocker that can be had at the dealer for around $85. Most non OEM or high end race ones are Chinese junk and are likely to eat bearings or explode if put under too much torsional stress. The SFI spec is pretty weakly written and doesn't test torsional loading at all so be wary.
