Woohaaa! EFI here I come.

So, over the weekend I bid on some EFI related stuff on ebay...

The auction included upper and lower intakes, wiring harness, fuel rails and injectors.

So, if my memory serves, I still need an electric fuel pump and a computer. (gonna try for an A9P). I'll also need a MAF sensor and housing to do the Mass air conversion. My only question is about the ignition - do I need to get the TFI unit and distributor for the swap, or will an MSD ready to run still work?

BTW, my plans for these parts are to:

1) Clean the bad boys up of course
2) Gasket match the intakes
3) Get the intakes coated/painted with a matching scheme

Any other thoughts on how I can improve on stock before I go ahead with the install?

19lb injectors
stock mass air (92 Mustang)

I believe you will need to use the TFI distributor cause thats is what fires the computer. I may have some other parts but I wont know till I get further thru my stash. :)
 
Safety First!

Don't forget to get the fuel pump safety cutoff switch that will turn off the fuel pump in case of a collision. If the fuel line is severed in a collision, fuel will continue to spew and could be a disaster without it.

An alternator upgrade would be a good investment. The EFI system definetly draws more current.

EFI are sequenced to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order. Early model 289s and 302s are 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. For optimal performance, you will either need to swap out the cam or modify the wiring harness. You can install a 351W cam that has this firing order. This does not require you to retrofit a roller cam. I'd probably opt for this route vs. modifying the wiring harness.

Can you explain why you have to modify the wiring harness for "optimal" performance rather than just switching plug wires and injectors to the correct spot? Are the wires just too short, or is there some "optimizing" that takes place?

It's not intuitively obvious to me.. but I'm kinda slow sometimes. :D
 
Hack,

Wires are too short. Like you said you just rearrange the plug wires but you have to change the injetor wires around in the disconnect to change their firing order. This is not a big deal and can be done in an hour or so.
 
Why are you interested in an A9P eec?

If you happen across an A9L I might swap you for my A9P. I've got a stick, and an A9P eec, but I've heard you can run an auto computer with it's slightly more aggressive ignition timing in a manual car. I haven't got the swap done yet, just a pile o parts and wires in my trunk.

I swapped the pins at the EEC connector for the firing order..
 
also, if you've got a non-roller 302 (likely) and you're going to use the TFI distributor, you need to get the gear on the distributor changed to a cast gear instead of the hardened one. it'll chew up the gear on the cam...

Only the GT Stang and Lincoln Mark VII computers are wired for the 13726548 firing order. If you use a computer for any other application ( such as Crown Vic or pickup truck) the older firing order applies.

Just need to swap the timing cover, acessory brackets, intake, carb, distributor ( need to swap to a steel gear there too) and get a clutch pivot adapter for the block, if you have a manual trans. Oilpan will need to be swapped too.
 
Resurrecting this post because I finally got the items from UPS.

This stuff is going to need some work. Most of the sensors are gone, there is no SD or MAF, no EGR etc. But the intakes appear to be in decent shape, as are the fuel rails, injectors and throttle body.

The most interesting part about this is the wiring harness. It's actually the wiring for the WHOLE CAR! Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen, I have the full wiring harness for the car, including the darn fuse block and all the dash lighting (with lightbulbs).

I can just imagine the look on my face...sort of a mix between laughing hysterically and a 'wtf?'

Just thought I'd share. Wonder how much effort it would take to rewire my '69 with this mess.

Have you ever seen the guy on Ebay who sells harnesses for something like $250? I remember reading his feedback and it all seemed pretty positive.
 
69PaleHorse, that's great. Me and you will be in the same boat here pretty soon. I am taking the engine and EFI components out of a '94 GT and installing them into mine. I can't wait to get started as soon as I get the rest of the cash! :D
