I want to get motor work done so i can have a gateway open later, or gears and converter. BUT people tell me to ditch my AOD and get a c4, telling me i will blow my OD out, they suggested getting a juckyard c4 and building it. How much would that cost, rebuild and VB and converter etc ( pretty much making it performance oriented and better than the AOD.

Or they suggested an intake to get things started.

I was going to build my longblock but i figured it would take a LONG time and i want some gains NOW or in the near future.

So its b/w motor, gears and converted or new tranny.

WHICH ONE?!!??!?!?!
I"M SO CONFUSED!

Scratch the C4 idea (only 3 gears)...only if you were running it at the track would I consider that.

Gears/converter/with some traction will give you a very nice drop in E.T's at the track and a better SOTP feel.

If this is your daily driver I might suggest going with 373's...

An intake like a Cobra/Performer intake wouldn't be a bad idea...and to go along with that you could get some 1.7 Crane/Ford RR's and maybe a 65mm TB and bigger MAF like a 75 or 80mm MAF.

But gears will give you the best bang for your buck at this stage...

How many miles you got on your car? If it don't smoke that is a good sign. A leakdown/compression test will let you know where the condition of your motor is at and whether you should think about rebuilding.

FYI, but a DSS 306 base block (rebuilt 302) is $1,500 bucks which isn't bad if your bottomend needs work.

i am at 131k, my motor seems to be running Really good, no leaks or anything, nothing has gone wrong.

How would a cobra or trickflow work for my car, i'm probably not going to see over 300 hp.

It's almost a no brainer. Work on the motor and you will be working on the AOD eventually. I'd consider a T5 swap or used tremec if youhave the patience to find one cheap.

AOD, not c4
Converter 2500 - 3200 $500
4.10 gears $250
SHift kit $50

It will feel like a WHOLE NEW CAR

these prices are average, but can be found cheaper if you shop around.

get an explorer intake from the junkyard along w/ a 3g alt, elect fan, maf, and 65mm tb from a 94+ stang. Those, plus the gears, convertor, and shift kit will make a VERY noticable diff.
