I have a 94GT and I wanna do the heads cause I'm building a Twin turbo engine, I have a guy that works with me who Pro races with the like of John Force and Dan Millen who says he can make my stock heads flow like AFR's or better..

Should I give him a chance or have you guys heard of stock heads being worked to perform like that? This guy is good.. and the best part is he will do it for only $200

What do you guys think?

People seem to be fairly successful with ported E7TE heads like Thumper heads which are $400 I think. They probably won't flow crazy but you should be able to get them up to par with a GT40 head or better. If you feel confident in the guy, for $200, go for it I say.

No disrespect to Dan Millen, but he is no where near John Force's league.

And, since you friend pro races with both of them, it kinda makes me wonder....

And, since he can get E7's to flow more than AFR's, my question to you becomes this:

I have lots of beachfront property on one of Malibu, California's largest nude beaches. I'm selling it for EXTREMELY cheap. I'll sell it to you for what you would pay to have those heads done ($200). Interested? :)

ported stock heads do okay....but they will leave you with the yearning for more afterward, and if you cant sell them, then you are out that money... NOt bashing as i run ported e7's with larger valves etc. and plan on upgrading to an AFR or Edelbrock head this winter....

Keep this in mind about porting anything that is oem.

It is an improvment that only goes so far!

Companies like Edelbrock, AFR, TFS, etc have learned a thing or two since 1994 and they put that knowledge to use in their products.

For the most part, you can't modify 1994 oem technology to match the technology of today.

But for someone like me, its at least something. Not everyone has the money for aluminum heads and a $500+ intake manifold (+ supporting mods and parts). Basicly, if you have the money for aluminum heads, it would be stupid to not buy them over ported E7's.

And you're being generous calling E7TE heads 1994 technology :). Probably not a lot different than what was available in the late 60's.

Need to go on back to the early 60's. :D

I did think about saying something like that but

I thought, who would care about that old stuff anyway

Also, I don't know about you guys, but I want to reduce the weight of my "tank" as much as possible.......

:nice: I saved over 40 lbs with JUST the heads. Stock iron heads weighed in at 51 lbs without the rockers and all. My TFS heads weighed in at 30 lbs with the studs and guideplates in place.

IF you are going to port stock heads atleast try and track down a set of gt40's first! Just my 2 cents. Of course if you add up gt40's + cost of porting you might find you are pretty close to the price of aftermarket heads. So I guess it depends on what your goals are in the long run.

I am not sure people have a solid concept of how bad the stock heads actually are if you wanted to make power to the red line. With an E cam and 1.6 rockers, the stock heads can flow about half the air required for a stock displacement 302 to operate at around 85% at 6250. This is not taking into account valve shrouding, flat bottom or under cut valves, or piston dome. The point is that starting with the stock head is a serious mistake. Save another 100 bucks and buy some p heads they flow better than gt40s at every lift.

thanks guys for the input and Joes95GT I will be calling about that land real soon...LOL

Guess i better just take my time and save up for the Edelbrocks or AFR's then.. Didn't want to spend a 1000 bucks on heads

The first set of heads I changed out was a set of ported E7te's. Although they were an improvement, money would have been better spent waiting on a set of better heads. Besides the biggest problem with E7 heads are the tiny valves. In order to make any decent amount of power they would have to be swapped out with bigger valves. That alone will put a big hole in $200

What greenlantern said is exactly why I am now selling my GT40's and gonna buy some AFR's or TF's. Plus the weight issue. If you can get past those (again, it depends on goals) then you could go with some ported cast irons. (preferably GT40's or GT40P's)

Good luck with whatever you decide.......

keep in mind that cast iron heads make more hp that aluminum heads but the advantage is that aluminum heads keep the car cooler and they are lighter weight which means more mph on your car. Went throught this with d&d motorsports the finally talked me into tf twisted wedge heads. You are gunna have as much money tied up in the stock heads as you would in just buying a set of aluminum and you run a risk of the guy ****ing up your heads
