Would PBR calipers be a good upgrade on my sn95?

Its time for new brakes and i dont feel like spending a whole lot on cobras, would it be worth my time to upgrade to PBR's? (btw one of my calipers is shot)

and for the core exchange.. do you think that they would notice if mine werent PBR's?

and should i strip the paint off of my old ones before i change em in?

thanks guys.. i searched but i didnt get the answer i was looking for..

I beleive PBR's come stock. If not all 94-04 I beleive 99+ do.

I could be wrong, but it came from a knowlegable person. My car has PBR's on it (doesnt mean they werent put on there). Just look at the top of the caliper, it should be engraved in there.

ok i mean the 94-98 sn95's lol.. they came with single piston calipers.. i believe the 99+ are twin piston PBR's

Definitely a worthwhile purchase on a 94-98. I put the Cobra fronts on my 95 and it made a tremendous difference.

Yes 99+ are twin pistons, sorry if I was incorrect about the 94-98's... was unsure if they changed or not.


I can tell you they stop well though. Just put Summit Racing slotted/cross drilled rotors and EBC Greenstuff pads on the car and it make a nice difference over the stock pads/rotors.

99-04 GT/V6 calipers are made by PBR. So are all 94-04 Cobra calipers.

The front 94-98 Gt calipers are made by varga i beleive...as all the rears are

Correct, although the manufacturer has changed of the OEM rotors now.


You will need 99-04 Brake lines as well

ok cool so i need

2 front 99+ rotors
2 front 99+ PBR Calipers
2 front 99+ Brake lines

and i assume i'm going to have to buy some banjo bolts to go along with that..

are braided stainless steel brake lines worth anything? i mean.. are they "safe" for DD's?

Well if the calipers don't come with banjos you will need them. There are two sizes. I beleive 99-00 were fine and 01-04 were coarse.

You can use SS lines. I have them on my DD. Definitely pedal feel improvement

I have done the swap and its awesome!!! they work much much better than the single piston brakes..
I didnt see in here but when you go to put them on, you will need to grind down the spindle a 1/16'' - 1/8'' or so to make them fit. Well worth your time!!!

I upgraded my 2002 GT brakes to the Cobra setup and sold my old calipers on EBay for an incredible (to me) $100+ (can't remember exactly how much it was...) I was shocked...I knew there was a market for them, but I had no idea I could get that much...it was a bidding frenzy.

$100 is usually the going rate for rotors, lines and calipers.


I still have my stock GT brakes from when i put the 13" stuff on. I should sell it

Right on guys, you rock!.. time to go shopping.. i think i will go with some new/reman calipers and new rotors.. i priced it out and its only going to be about 2 hundo to get all new stuff..

You might as well upgrade considering its like the same price for the pbr stuff as the older single caliper.

I didnt notice any increase in stopping power, but I also dont have abs so my wheels lock up.

Just do the Cobra stuff. Same amount of work and MUCH better performance


I loved my GT PBR's when i had them..but the Cobra stuff blows em away

i will soon, but i'm swapping front 4WD suspention and lifting my truck 6" with new wheels, 35" tires.. i just put out $1,500 on new leather seats for my 68 lincoln continenal, in the middle of a 460ci build for the lincoln... and i just put new cobra bumpers on the stang... i only go fast every now and then.. ive been to the track like 5 times since ive had it.. i think the PBR's are fine for now lol

I just got all of my brake parts off my car 15 min ago

but i would love to have me a set cobra brakes!! the also have that BLING over stock brakes.

Mustang GT stock brakes sucked ASS.

When I upgraded to the Cobra set, the only difference I saw was a red caliper, 13" rotors and SS brake lines. I noticed a huge difference, I wonder why so much over stock 01.

It's worth it. The calipers are dual piston and they are a lot lighter than those single piston iron calipers on the 94-98's. There is also a little more bite from larger pads. They made my 91 notch stop on a dime compared to the stock fox brakes, which aren't much worse than the 94-98 stuff.
