I have read several back issues of Mustang magazines lately and I can't help but notice that there are a majority of those owners who say they would never sell their Mustang. Personally I have bought and sold 17 Mustangs in the last 10 years, in Kansas they are super easy to pick up for cheap November-February, and you can sell them for a nice profit April-August. My current Mustang I have had for 16 months, which is the second longest time I have ever kept a Mustang. During the last year I have had a couple of very nice offers on the car, one for $13000 and one for $12250...but for some reason I keep holding onto it.

My question is what makes you guys KEEP your Mustangs for a long period of time? What would make you want to sell your Mustang? I am trying to figure out if this is the "ONE", but somehow I doubt it, there are so many different colors and Models and power plants out there now that could lure me away from my 2003 GT...Black, Sonic Blue, Red Metallic, I LOVE the 01 Bullitt, the 05-09 Mustang styling is starting to grow on me, and how could one not be tempted by an 03-04 Cobra???

I know I am not in a position to do so today, but when things are better the idea of upgrading to any of these cars is terribly tempting.

Id never sell mine because to me, i look at it, and its me. My styling, my thoughts, my ideas. If it was stock id probably feel different but Ive put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and its just very personal at this point. Seeing someone else drive it would be like seeing someone else live in my house or sleep in my bed. Its hard to explain

BTW ive had 4 mustangs all together but this one ive had the longest. Had 2 fox body's (love the fox's but they just arent built like they are now days) and a 94 that i compulsively bought and then sold.

I have had my stang now for over four years and put around $5k worth of mods into her. I said I would never sell her but I'm right on the fence. I would sell her and get a used 05-09. The 3v is a great motor and can make good power with just simple bolt ons. Also since the S197s came out I have loved the 65-66 fastback look of them. People say the S197 feels big. I test drove one this past weekend and it didn't feel big at all to me. I would say get what will make you happy. Don't get something that in a few months you will say, oh man I wish I would have gotten an S197 or 03-04 cobra. Figure out what you want then go get it.

Maybe its because my 03 is lowered, but I drove a 2006 GT a few months ago and everything about it seemed much more refined. I understand the 03 is built on a VERY old platform, and my feeling is that Ford did GREAT to make it what it was, but the 06 GT i drove I kind of just felt like I could drive it everyday, everything was smoother, everything felt more solid. Dont get me wrong here! I love the 03 GT, but the 06GT really felt very well put together and more refined. A used 05-09 GT could replace my 03 I think...and they have 40 more hp and they seem to respond to mods better than the 99-04 GTs...which would make perfect sense with the 3V head...I dont feel like I am in a position to change right now, but if I could I dont even know what I would change to! A DHG 2008 Bullitt might be nice, but more than I want to spend still.

I wont sell my because I simply have to much money in it and could never get it back. Plus its my first and only stang. My girl even told me she would be a little upset if I ever sold it because I bought it the night before our first date.

Have you ever seen a Laser Red GT as clean as Mine?

.... Look at pics of my car and you would think i was stupid for getting rid of that car.

no doubt you one of the cleanest sn95's around, but the end, it is what your circumstances dictate, or what you want. Do you want to upgrade/downgrade/get a family car, etc. Then, the thousands of dollars of modifications come in to effect.

I bought my Mach over five years ago. When you can look at other vehicles and not even flinch as to if you would sell your Mustang for it, then I think you found the car you want to keep. My Mach is'nt going anywhere.

i'll never sale because hopefully i'll find a good deal on 67-69 camaro or 65-67 mustang
project car to turn into my dream car it would be hard to accomplish that if i had a car payment $500-$600 every month f**K that this way ima have a modern street machine and a bad ass classic :nice:

I go back and forth between the two extremes of hating it and wanting to sell vs loving it and never wanting to sell.

Also, I find it more enjoyable to look at it rather than drive it generally. When I drive it I just get annoyed...

Selling mine is not an option. Its worth more to keep it, since its now 10yrs old. I have taken really good care of it and only a brand new one would be able to replace it, and I can't swing that these days.

I also really like the car, I like alot of other too, but this ones paid for.

I quite the opposite of the origional poster. I still own the only 2 mustangs I've had; one I've had for 10 years, and the other I've had for nearly 4 years. However, I keep them for completely different reasons.

The 97, I keep because I love the rare color and there is no way I could find a replacement for what it is worth. I keep it maintained maticulously and there is no way I could find a car this solid for what it is worth. Plus, I know the history and problems. I would be scared to buy another mustang because you never know what kind of abuse, cheap ass modifications, or lack of maintanance they've gotten. Why sell when I have a perfectly reliable, good looking, fun and cheap car to drive? It must be seriously expensive to change mustangs that often too?

The 88 I keep because it was my first car, and it is great CHEAP fun. I cracked the block, but I'm working on picking up a replacement short block for under 200$. Add in another 11$ for a head gasket and I can have some more track fun next year. :D

In another 2-3 years, I'll probably sell/part the 88. I'm a bit bored with it already. I'm considering a C6 corvette or a new 2011+ mustang. We'll just have to see what is offered in the mustang for engines. I would love to see the twin turbo ecoboost 3.5 in the mustang with 400+hp.

...Why sell when I have a perfectly reliable, good looking, fun and cheap car to drive?...

Yep. That's where I'm at.

When I bought mine, I was looking for the nicest 5 speed GT in my price range - I liked the 94-98 body style and, conveniently, they were cheaper and still easily available with decent miles on them.

Now that I've had it for a while, I don't see any reason not to keep driving it for years to come. If I bought a new or newer one, sure it'd be a little nicer but to me it'd be a marginal upgrade for a lot of money. It'd still be a RWD, V8, manual transmission pony car - essentially what I already have, just a little more refined and shiny. The SN-95s have enough modern safety and other features that I don't feel like I'm driving an total anachronism out on the roads and it's cheap to operate (gas not withstanding) and relatively cheap to repair and fairly easy to work on.

If it got totaled, I'd probably replace it with the nicest Mustang I could find within my budget - maybe another Aero SN95, maybe a New Edge, maybe a S197, who knows... but otherwise, I'll just keep driving it and enjoying it as long as I can.

I'd probably enjoy flipping cars as a hobby but I don't think I (or my wife) have the stomach for it :D We don't have harsh enough winters to convince people to dump their unpractical cars cheap either.

Ive owned around 15 cars and never kept one over 2 years until now.
Ive had my 04 for 3.5 years now and have no plans of selling.
I am sick of paying interest on anything...... I paid off all my credit cards
and dont even use them at all. I only pay 5.25 on my house but that
is unavoidable. The 04 has only 65k and in perfect condition, not to
mention I just put on new Nitto 555's.

i said it a million times that i would never get rid of my 88 gt. it was my pride and joy. i bought in 99 the year i graduated high school. i dumped 15,000 into it. of course that was multiple motors, trannys, rear ends etc but it was a nice car. I put a ton of work into it and made it something that was mine and only mine. But as all things come to an end i grew old of it. It is 21 years old, has all the typical Fox rust problems and honestly the only thing i could have done is search out a mint shell and drop my H/C/I setup into it and start over, so, today i traded it off for a 97gt and watched it drive down the road.
