Would you want 315HP or 365HP?

I agree, I bought my 09' V6 and I love it, its lighter in the corners and I don't feel bogged down, I've done the GT thing and I love em to death but I also like having a modded V6 that beats chargers and the look on their face when I tell em they got beat by a 6 haha, plus I'm still getting 28 on the highway so I've pretty much got the best of both worlds right now...I just need a good turbo now...I'm thinking Greddy.....

the same reasons we're not all driving big blocks right now. theres no way ford could mass produce cars with 700 hp without having insurance rates thru the roof. think of how affordable and available gt models are. if models with 500 horsepower are available to pretty much anyone like the GTs are, insurance companys will be charging out the ass for insurance.

also emissions and the new MPG bs.

in a dream world that would be awesome. but these stangs come with decent power factory, and as always have a strong aftermarket so we can make them the 500 hp monsters we want. without spending a huge fortune.

315HP & 350 lb/ft > 365HP & 260 lb/ft.

On a different note for the nostalgia factor a V8 engine is the engine to have for a Mustang.

But I thought with ecoboost we could have 400 + horses for the same Gas Mileage as a 300 HP Engine. Driven conservatively of course.
Honest, I would only put my foot in it to get on the freeway and for suicide passes.

And I'll add that no twin turbo V6 will ever match the sweet music of a V8.

The signature flowmaster/Hpipe sound of the sn95 GT's back in the 90's is why I fell in love with the mustang in the first place.

Without a V8 in future mustangs I would either buy an old one with a V8 or buy something else.

Haha...See? Thats what I'm talking about. The Younger guys are getting the V8 for the sound. In my opinion, you don't equip the car for Apperance. You equip it for Preformance. unless.... You are just having a problem preforming...haha

How about the old guys like me.... wait, how old is old? I'm 36. I wouldn't drive a V-6 sports car if you PAID me. Also, it is as rediculous to compare V-6 performance to V-8 performance as it is to compare the beauty of Piglet vs Natalie Portman. The V-8 will ALWAYS have the performance edge and it's not just displacement. It is YEARS of engine design, the domestic V-8's outclass anything from overseas when it comes to V-8 or bigger and the smaller import engines don't stand a chance to the cubic inches. Just remember, anything you can do to a v-6, you can do to a V-8, and you will always make more with the 8. Now, don't come at me with A 6 cylinder locomotive engine or something, an 8 cylinder motor makes more power, wether it's in a car or a train... so anyway, I chose the V-8. Mine makes over 600 HP, stock internals (534 RWHP) with just a supercharger added to the top. Let's see the "ecoboost" catch up, and if it does... I'll just turn up the boost. Like I said, apples to apples chief, the v-6 makes nothing for torque anyway....

Yeah I think you're having trouble understanding the fact that there's no replacement for displacement more than I'm having trouble performing.
BTW, its PERform not PREfrom.

The ecoboost V6 makes 350lb-ft of torque from down low, so I dont know that you could tell a difference between the engines based on the power-band. The only difference would be the sound. I can see them putting an ecoboost V6 in the GT, and an ecoboost V8 in the GT500. Those of us who need V8s would have to step up to the GT500. (or buy used older GTs)

Who knows, I think this happened before with the fox bodies in the eighties. They offered a turbo four as the performance engine for awhile, (the LX?), but everyone kept buying the V8.

I think Ford would be better off finding ways to make V8s more fuel efficient, like cutting them off while stopped, or deactivating cylinders, or even a hybrid electric drivetrain for use in the city.

Believe it or not, there is more to consider than just simple mathematical equations like power to weight ratios when buying a PERformance car. That is why people like Jeremy Clarkson have jobs. You want a car that is going to be exhilerating to drive. A big part of that is the power to weight, but you also have to consider drivetrain, durability, comfort, styling, handling, heritage, sound, soul, character. These are not things you can put into an equation, and the Mustang has them in droves. If numbers were the only thing to consider, we would all be driving Mitsubishi EVOs. Nothing against the EVO, it is a great car, but I think 180 degrees different than the Mustang. So, Katrina, may I suggest you go date an EVO driver, and then you can enjoy the pleasure of pure, mathematical PRE-formance.

The ecoboost is a great engine, just not sure its right for the Mustang. Maybe ford should bring back the probe and put the ecoboost in that.

I strongly doubt the ecoboost V6 will ever be in the mustang.. It's too expensive and too close in power to the New V8 to be a engine choice for the base stang..

More likely the new V6 engine replacing the 4.0 will be a 3.5 or 3.7 cyclone.. Maybe they will do direct injection but I DOUBT you will see the ecoboost in a stang..

My guess for the new power trains is

Base mustang = 3.5 or 3.7 around 280 HP

GT = 5.0 coyote around 400 HP <--- not much of a guess there LOL

GT-500 6.2 S/C 625 HP
