I want to 'downgrade' to a v6, tell me what you think

Why all the work to install an engine that weighs the same, yet is potentially less powerful, than a 289?

[puzzled]

Not sure what a 289 weighs, the SHO sits in at about 385lbs with all accesories. This I do know, and that is the potential of the SHO engine is VERY high. My turbo SHO makes 430whp with STOCK head/cams/block/rods/crank with a small single T3/4 @ ONLY 13PSI. There are a number of SHO's in the 500whp range now, and my next dyno should have me in the neighborhood of 550whp, on pump gas, @ only 17-18psi. These littel gems are bullet proof, and can make some serious HP.

Sounds like a cool project. If you have any questions about TC'ing the SHO, feel free to ask.

out of curiosity, is that the 3.0 or the 3.2? how much torque do you make at 13psi?as far as turbocharging...dont really have too many questions(since I have done it all before a few times with different cars) but I am curious as to what you use for engine management...I'll probably end up using my standalone for wiring simplicity

p.s. from what I read a 289 weighs in at 480lbs, so I would save 100lbs in engine weight right off the bat, add to that the fact that AC and P/S would be tossed(because I never have been one for such luxuries, except in my daily driver) and I might save another 50lbs

Mine was bored to a 3.2, stock 3.0 heads/cams. Made 412ft lbs. Originally had a reflashed chip and an 80mm MAF, no other tuning changes save for the injectors. With the new system (62-1 turbo, lot of other goodies) I am using a 90mm OBDII MAF and a Tweecer R/T (for datalogging). As soon as I get my new write-up (for the SHO forum) with pics, and dyno sheets, I will send you a link. Expecting 550whp/500+ftlbs on pump gas and 18psi. With race gas, 21+psi and nitrous, expecting to shock everyone with the numbers.

isnt 18psi just a little high to be running on 9.8ish compression? or should I assume a lower compression since you said it was overbored? SHOnut pistons maybe?(although if overbored your block isnt quite stock....unless you just used stock 3.2L pistons)

YEs, my block is not technically stock, it is overbored. But I could just as easily have used a 3.2 from an ATX, but I digress. My pistons are JE forged, 9:1.
