Wrong distributor?

I have a stock 95 GT and I recently changed my distributor (squeal of doom, hard warm start). When I had the old distributor out, I noticed that the new one didn't look exactly the same as the old one. I checked part numbers and found out that the new distributor was for a 95 F-150. I put it in anyway and set the timing to 10 degrees btdc. The car starts normally at all times now, but it's definitely down on power now and idles a bit rough. Would the F-150 distributor cause this? (I have a feeling this is a very stupid question, but before I go spending $200, I want to be sure I'm right about this)

why didn't you just return it right away and get the correct one? my guess is that indeed the wrong distributor is what is causing your problem as the F-150 has a totally different 302 setup.

I appreciate the help, can you tell me exactly what is different about them, or point to some reference that says they're not interchangeable? I just called my local Ford dealer and they said it's fine to interchange them. I can't find any information on the web about this.

Our distributer is only interchangeable with

1991-1993 Thunderbirds
1991-1993 Cougars
And of course
1994-1995 Mustangs

I actually bought it through MPS Auto Salvage. It has a Ford part number that lists out as being from an F-150. If they DID pull this from a stang, it must have run like total crud. It definitely looks different from my old distributor. I'm just going to buy one from my local dealership and keep this one on my desk as a lesson to NOT try to take the cheap way out anymore.

Thanks for the help guys.
