WTF!!! Car is all over the place when hitting a bump or on highway

I ordered the Steeda bumpsteer kit and the Steeda cc plates. I will hopefully have them installed on Thursday. I am also replacing the poly bushings on the front control arms with Moog OE style bushings. Hopefully that will do it. If not I'll invite everyone over to roast marshmallows.

If you and your mechanic were able to move the control arm in the bushings then that is your problem!!

As the control arm moves on that side of the car, caster, camber, and toe are changing. Fixing this will go a very long way to solving your problem.

The car had the same problem before installing the poly bushings. I didn't see the original bushings that were taken out so I don't know what condition they were in. Maybe it's just the bushings or maybe it's something more.

Even after reading all this, my first reaction still stands:

Either bushings or tie rods (or both). The A-arms shouldn't be able to slide around on the bushing like that...so that is NOT helping your situation.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I just picked up the car from the shop. I had them install cc plates and a Steeda bumpsteer kit. I did not have a chance to get it aligned. The car feels alot smoother now with regular control arm bushings. It is difficult to notice if the car does what it did before. It pulls to the side. I am getting it aligned on Monday morning. The mechanic checked my inner tie rods and he said they were fine. I will post again next week after the alignment.

I got on the highway this morning and the car would try to change lanes by itself. I can let go of the steering wheel and it will drive straight but of all of a sudden it wants to go to the sides. I wish I was exaggerating! I can't drive next to another car because I am afraid I will going into their lane. I think that it might be the rack and pinion but I don't want to keep spending money and not fix it.

He is not exagerating. Mine is the same way! I have not lowered mine though. I have new KYB shocks and struts. Same tires all around. Just had the allignment checked and they said its fine. I think it is "towed" in though. My plan is a new rack and pinion set. That will be going in next month. I'll keep you posted as to if that works. But I feel your pain on its driveability! IT SUCKS!!

I finally got the car aligned this afternoon. It feels a whole lot better but it's not all gone. The caster only went as high as 2 1/2 degrees. We were trying for 3 but the cc plates are maxed out which sucks cause some other plates allow more. Steeda claims that the plates can be given more than 3 degrees. I am stuck with them. The bumpsteer kit has all the bushings on the bottom half. I still think that I might need a new rack.

I just looked at the alignment sheet that the shop gave me. It shows under "model" 94-96 Mustang. I'm wondering if this douche made a mistake. I guess I have to go over there tomorrow again.

If you look at the angle between your front control arms and your tie rods, are they parallel with the suspension loaded? I'm not talking about parallel to the ground....but rather only the relationship between each other.

Honestly, I haven't really looked at it. I think my mechanic may have done it parallel with the floor and not the control arms. I guess I will have to check up on that tomorrow morning.

I looked at the tie rods. They are almost parallel with the control arms. They can't go anymore so that's the closest that they'll get. I took the car to another shop and had them look at the specs. The caster is set at over 3 degrees. I guess the machine over at the shop that originally aligned the car is way off.

The car does feel better but it still turns the wheel when you hit some bumps. I will be swapping out the rack as soon as I get the funds. (Just spent $3000 on a turbo kit) I have spent way too much just trying to get this issue resolved. I will post updates.
