Was riding in my buddy's GT today noticed a whine while we was driving down the road, sounded like he had a blower also a slight rattle of some sort, he didn't pay it no mind, next thing we know the car bucked and there was a loud pop but the car didnt stop we pulled over and the car kept running just making a chatting noise but no whine until it was in gear moving. Drove further down the road on the way to get it checked out and it clunked again pulled over and the car shut itself off. Car will not go into ANY gear now. What could have possibly happened? Don't think it's the bottom end cuz the car can be pushed without jolting and locking up??

I may be stupid, but it could be the gears. Did he have after-market gears installed? If so...was it by a reputable shop? I've heard of people's gears getting messed up ALL THE TIME!

If the car won't go into any gear, whether on or off, my next guess would be the tranny. Those tend to whine some. Take it to your local reputable tranny shop and have them inspect it.

Sounds like the clutch, but what do you mean wont go into any gear, like it grinds, goes into gear but wont move, that happened to me while driving in my dads 00 5spd V6, I was "practicing" (16 years old) my shifts at 60-65 MPH with the clutch in, and went down into 1st 2 times, on the second time, I heard a lot of clanking and my clutch pedal hit the floor and the engine would just rev and you could hear stuff clanking around....I am thinking part of the clutch flew off.

just looking at AAMCO.com, here are some things that could have happened:
The clutch cable is broken
The clutch cable is disconnected
Start looking at the clutch, something must have gotten screwed up there
