WTF??????? water pump problems PLEASE HELP!!!!

are 86-93 water pumps all the same rotation? Can they flow either way with either rotation?????? I've been fighting THIS POS MFer for two days trying to find a way to get a belt to fit, and the right direction. WHICH way does the water pump have to turn!!! clock wise or counter clock....when the belt comes off the alt, does it go under the crank then around the left side and over the top of the waterpump pully or what????
