ok, I was just given this alternator. it is a 95A. it is a brand new not remanufactured unit. it was purchased back in 97. the guy was cleaning out his basement and just came across it. he no longer has the vehicle so he just gave it to me. I actually recieved 3 pieces.

1) the alt.
2) pulley brand new in box - motorcraft box
3) regulator and holder - motorcraft box

now to my questions:

1) is it really worth doing the upgrade if I only go from the stock 75A to a new 95A? I never noticed any charging problems with my stock unit but it is the original piece from 1988.

2) the pulley is I'm guessing 2 7/8" in size. would this around the correct size for this application?

3) on the alt. there is this very small plug about 0.5" away from the regulator plug. do I need to get something for this?

thanks for any help you can provide.

ok, I took a few pics of the alt. it isn't the cleanest piece but according to guy it has never been installed on anything. it even has a plastic cap where the pulley goes as you can see in the pics. I haven't installed the regulator yet because I don't want to even bother if I won't be able to use it. here are the pics:

I hope these are ok to see. one thing I do notice is that the threaded hole is smaller than the current alt. so that have have to be enlarged.

I would sell it honestly. If you do the upgrade you might as well get a 130amp atleast. If you plan on upgrading the stereo, head lights or pulleys....you'll just be upgrade again with that alternator. If you have no desire to do any of the upgrades I just mentioned then it "might" be worth it.

thanks for the reply.

I actually have an aftermarket cd head unit with a 1000W Kenwood amp pushing 2 12" subs. I can crank it up pretty loud to the fact of the entire car turning into one giant rattle and my alt. only drops a tiny bit at idle. the real draw to the charging system is when I am driving at night with headlights, fogs, and the A/C on and blasting the stereo. then it drops. I rarely drive the car at night though(too many crazy drivers come out at night here)

I was mainly wondering if this would work since all I would have to pick up is a new 4G wire and the 3G alt. adapter plug right now. I was thinking of something as a temporary(a year or so) upgrade until I get other things done. but if this wouldn't really be worth the hassle I think I'll just postpone something else and just go with a full alt. upgrade.

You could just go ahead and get everything for the 130amp install and just install a smaller fuse to run the 95A. I would suggest running maybe a 90amp or 85amp fuse. This way you aren't exactly doing the work twice, plus it will help out when you do decide to drive it at night ;).

:stupid: I'd sell it and buy a 3G 130 amp kit. You can get one on Ebay from Alterstart with a lifetime warranty.. like 140 shipped, 150 AMP, all the hardware, connectors, stator connector... everything. They also offer the 4 gauge alt cable with fuse for 25 bucks. It's what I bought and would highly recommened them.
