Would 4:10's lower my top speed. I have a 97 GT 5sp. And would I notice a big difference goin to 3:73's from stock?

I used have fun going fast on the freeway with my stock gears, now with my 4.10's I wish they put stoplights on the freeway. launching is so much fun. I could car less about going fast now, the fastest I've gone with the 4.10 was 115 with plenty of gear left. according to the corral gear calculator at 6000rpms in 5th gear on a t-45 tranny with stock tires, the speed would be 166.8mph. now unless your pushing some serious hp your never even going to see that speed.

Got my 4.10's installed yesterday and let me tell you it is really fun to drive now. I was doing 90 on the way to work in 5th gear this morning and I still had plenty of pull. Actually I never felt any pull in 5th gear before the new gears.

My top speed changed from 297mph with stock gears to 187mph with the tens @ 6,000rpms. So if 187mph isnt fast enough for you then maybe the 3:73's

I think he means the theoretical speed according to the gearing. with my stock 2.73's if I had unlimited hp I could of gone close to 300mph too before hitting the rev limiter in 5th

I made a graph on Microsoft excel and factually your top speed will decrease with the 4.10's, but in reality and for a street driven car it increases it. Technically you could go like 300 mph with the 3.27's in the rear but really how fast can you actually get the car up to with out the force of air dragging you down? around 130 140 maybe and this is if you have enough road to do it on! With the Gears you will be able to reach 140 faster and go beyond that if you really wanted to! I know in my auto it feels like my car hits a wall when OD kicks in with the stock gears! So the 4.10's will let you "pull" in OD or 5th Gear. As other people have said. I am getting the 4.10's installed over the summer and possibly a trans cooler and maybe something along the lines of a shift kit and a stall converter!

I dont know why i asked , the thought just popped in my head, i almost never see over 100 mph, just once when i decided to see what it would do i buried the needle at roughly 6000rpm's on the interstate. Theres nobody to race in my town anyway unless they are a in a box of "Uncle Ben's Rice" or a 70 year old in a GT or a Z28 tryin to live up to the attitude their Viagra gave them. 99% of the Stangs where i am are middle aged women in V6's.
