Yet Another Broken Top Question...

Well, it's not my first Mustang, or my first convertible, but it is my first Mustang convertible.

Picked it up from a co-worker who's moving; figure a college kid needs a sporty convertible, so I got it for my boy.

1998 3.8 base. All stock, nice exterior, but has some issues to address. The only one I can't figure is the top. Previous owner said it just needed a switch, and indeed the switch was gone. Picked one up from the u-pull-it yard, but no dice. Maybe it's broken too. Ordered a new one, but no help there either.
The used switch worked for just a moment, then no.

Now, the center connector is hot. Tested with test light. All fuses/cb good.
If I put 12v from my jump box directly to the connector, the top runs up and down just fine. Key does need to be on, but the brake handle position is irrelevant. The top works, but there's some wiring screwing with me that I can't find.

Any ideas from the more experienced?
