I grew up in South Florida, Boca Raton to be exact. Now I live in SW Louisiana, so I just got to experience a little bit of Harvey. Thank God it didn't hit us hard, and I feel bad for all those in TX that lost so much.

I remember I was 13 when Andrew hit FL, and I remember seeing the aftermath of it. Again, thank God Andrew was quite a bit south of Boca, but where it hit directly looked like a 40 mile wide bulldozer just came and wiped EVERYTHING out.

If I was 13 and I can remember that so vividly, I'm sure my mom can to, so I am truly puzzled as to why she refused to leave. She's in her house in Boca Raton planning on riding it out, but according to her it'll be ok because "I've got storm shutters". I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I'm sitting here wondering if I'll ever see her alive again.

This is how my mom is acting, despite pleadings from everyone for her to GTFO.

They took guns, violently, out of the hands of grandmas and good samaritans there to help, even though they were getting shot at by some of the looting idiots that stayed behind. After all of the ensuing lawsuits, I think we're unlikely to see anything like that within the continental US like that again in the foreseeable future.

Planning for that scenario, though, I could see having "throw away" guns to hand over to get them to go away peacefully, while stashing the ARs, concealed carries, and ammo to defend myself. While the tough guy in me wants to defend my rights using violence as necessary, realistically, it makes no sense to gamble the lives of my family on a shootout with law enforcement.

I didn't hear about law enforcement disarming anybody. First of all, that's illegal and a violation of your constitutional rights. Secondly, if they wanted to disarm me, they better bring a truck and metal detectors, lol. They can leave with 15 or 20 and I'll let em think they got them all.

Hope it all goes well for you, if the storm follows it's current track the eye will pass directly over my house.

Man keep us posted on how things go down there. We hope all goes well for you and your family. I'd hate to be in that situation because I probably wouldn't leave either. Be safe brother.

Sht! This sucks! You guys do whatever you need to do to be safe. Keep us up to date as long as you have power.

You are all my friends, i want you to be kicking about next week btching about how you can't find a decent cleared stretch of road to do a post-Irma smokie.

No jackstands to keep them from getting water damage from flooding ( hopefully it doesnt flood)

Bold move Cotton

Like I said, I grew up in S Florida about a mile and a half from the east coast and experienced a lot of hurricanes. In my experience, at least, flooding was never much of an issue. Even during Andrew we didn't have flooding and our house was on the intracoastal with my dad's boat in the water. The biggest problem in Florida, I think, is flying debris. Everyone has friggin terra-cotta shingles on their roof, palm trees are not indigenous to the region but they put them EVERYWHERE, and they have a very crappy, shallow root structure. I anticipate seeing a lot of structural damage from this storm, but not flooding.

Maybe not where you are, bud. I've personally seen the effects of storm surges that wiped out the bottom two floors of hotels and other buildings leaving nothing but the concrete, boats carried miles inland, and even a house washed off of its foundation and onto a beach without a clue as to where it came from. I guess it depends on exactly where you are, though.

Take it from an LEO, we are citizens too! No one will ever take my guns, nor will myself or any of my collueges ever confiscate any guns. Perhaps in the liberal north or west coast, but not here.

I am about 400 miles from the coast, but we are being told that Monday will bring 30-50 mph sustained winds and 5" of rain. Definetly nothing like the coast will be dealing with, but I suspect some minor damages.

Praying for all you guys, not just saying that, I have purposely made sure to include you all in my prayers. Good luck!
