You Texas Boys And Now Florida!

Has anyone else noticed that the storm is steadily moving west despite the fact they keep saying its going to make a hard right ?

Its now out of all of the earlier weather models.

I wonder how much money is made from natural disaster prep. ?

There's no doubt that Florida Keys will get hit and the state will feel a lot from this hurricane.

Just seems like its headed to Alabama and Mississippi...

I have to say, I've been wondering why they thought it would turn up to the north so sharply. If it makes it clean into the Gulf, it'll be a Cat 5 again before it pummels the gulf coast somewhere.

I'm praying for all you guys in FL and GA. Wherever this monster goes it is going to be bad.

I
If I was 13 and I can remember that so vividly, I'm sure my mom can to, so I am truly puzzled as to why she refused to leave. She's in her house in Boca Raton planning on riding it out, but according to her it'll be ok because "I've got storm shutters". I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I'm sitting here wondering if I'll ever see her alive again.

This is how my mom is acting, despite pleadings from everyone for her to GTFO.

I know exactly how you feel. My dad is 85 and lives in Corpus Christi. Mom passed 1 year ago. My sister and her husband live 1.5 miles away and watch out for him, although he is entirely self sufficient. Of course, when Harvey is bearing down on Corpus, they are in Mexico on vacation and can't get back. It was a totally helpless feeling to sit here and watch the storm take direct aim at Corpus. I was worried that something would happen to him. Especially when the power went out. Thankfully, he was able to text pretty much throughout. He made it thru with just fences and a few big limbs down. Trying to get thru that night not knowing exactly what was happening was horrible. I'll be praying for you and your mom!

praying for all you guys on the west coast and in the panhandle... it shifted rather significantly to the west... We are starting to get teh outer bands here on the east coast and about 30k people have lost power so far..

Preliminary reports from south FL are not good. Tampa/Clearwater area looks like they are going to get the worst of it. @a9what I hope you have a flotation device handy.

they made 700k people leave south florida, and many relocated to where the Hurricane is now going to hit the hardest.
This is not the first time government and the NHOA has done this- they rile people up and get them all panicked- make them all evacuate when they could have stayed at home and been safer and not have to spend all that money and 15 hours on the turnpike.

This is why I haven't left my house in living here 35 years. They have not been accurate on any landfall ever- including Andrew,

It's hard to predict the weather.... it's like a women, when you think you have it figured out it goes to a new level of crazy.

I do have some duck floaties......

In all seriousness I will be in a block home during all this. My home will probably be a loss with the 100+mph projected winds... not much we can do about it, just wish I had more insurance coverage....

Only takes them getting it right one time to make you wish you had chosen to listen Mike. We are heading to ATL to get my MIL from Walton beach. Flew her out of there today, as opposed to the drive there and back, so driving two hours to ATL is the lesser of two evils.
It only takes one inch of standing water to make a choice to stay put the wrong choice. Nothing you can do by staying to deal with it once power is gone, ( it will be) once sewer is compromised an backed up, (it will be) IDK where that storm will track, whether or not FT. Walton will be in the path, but weather forecasting is far from an exact science, and I don't expect them to be right, but I do expect them to be forthcoming with as much info as they can provide,....after that it's up to you.

True statement! What people don't get when they show the 'cone' with the line in it. The line is not the track and the cone is not the area of coverage. The track is still about where the left edge of the cone has been since Tues or Wed. They can't even predict in normal times if for sure it will rain tomorrow. So forecast a hurricane's track down to the zip code it's going to hit, probably isn't possible yet. I think they are doing the right thing. This is a monster and if it hits you, you are in trouble.

Bug-Out Bags

That is all.
The time to bug out was 2 days ago. By and large anyone still here is in for the long haul. I was telling a friend that decided to stay in South Florida that the storm is the easy part. It's the 5-10 days without power where food and water run out where it gets sketchy. I don't expect that here but I still have my bag of mcguyver tricks handy and firearms are oiled/ready if shady members of society come along.

Lol we put all our firearms on one table and loaded everything....... it's incredible what 4 people have stashed. We could arm 2 dozen people and each would have at least one reload.
Good deal. I have several options at my disposal depending on how far I want to let someone run before I want to ruin their day. That's assuming I don't want to let my two German shepherds get some exercise first.
